Toenails

Had my dosage of levothyroxine reduced from 100mg to 75mg, now back to 100mg.

When I was first prescribed levothyroxine, I noticed my 2 toenails on each foot, next to my big toe, fell off, but they grew back.

Now my middle 2 toenails are starting to do the same thing.

My question is, could it be anything to do with being under medicated?

Without blood results we can't decide if you are undermedicated. Therefore we can't comment as to whether this might be a factor or not.

The same problem happening to me I have been attending hospital podiatry and have been told that it's a circulation issue, (I have peripheral neuropathy)it was really bad in the cold weather but eased a lot when it got warmer but it's still not right and just this week another toe nail peeled off, couldn't get a podiatry appt. so phoned doctor's and was prescribed penicillin!

I lost my toenails when being titrated up and therefore undermedicated x

I big toenail on both feet are lifting from the nail bed and the rest are ridged, both vertically and horizontally, and brittle. This has only happened since RAI and becoming hypo and being kept under medicated with a low T3.

I think it's very probable that I have been under medicated, further more I don't convert to T3 well too.The battle for t3 being prescribed is on going..... Bloody bloody hell.

Thankyou for all your replies, I don't feel so on my own, stay safe and hope you have more good days than not🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

I don't have falling off toenails, but whenever under medicated all my nails become brittle and snap, eventually becoming thin , bendy and just rip apart. But I also get the thinning eyebrows and receding hairline. I also think I should have t3 as still exhausted even with high T4.....must be bad converter. Also check your vitamins are ok and Vit D.

I'm due for a private bloodtest and will post on this fantastic forum... I think I would have been lost without it🌸🌸🌸🌸

Me too, forum has been invaluable, I got private bloods, and tested very high for Hashimoto's, then got allergy testing done...what a surprise!!!! Tests positive allergy to nearly all food groups. Now on controlled diet and taking LDN, much much better. If it wasn't for tiredness, which I think is a T3 issue, I would be really quite well; but with relapses, probably ME. This site is wonderful, helped me so much; also having people to talk it over with that are in the same boat, helps.
