How many of you have improved with histamine issues after starting thyroid meds? Did they get better or worse? How about allergies?

Thank you.

zbs5,

Some years ago I did the Diamine Oxidase Test which showed I was just over range.

Getting thyroid meds optimal certainly helped. Going g/f & supplementing Betaine HCl with pepsin, & anti-inflammotary sups such as fish oils, curcumin & Vt D helped more but even now I still sneeze and get a blocked up nose during the night after wine & Chinese takeaway 😁.

Have you got histamine issues?

Hello radd,

yes i have many histamine issues und allergies. When starting the thyroid journey with T4-only, i noticed that they really get worse. My body temperature dropped, constipation get worse and i was allergic to nearly everything i eat.

Now on T3-only (still early phase), it is better but still not perfect.

As i've some lab results which indicate a metal toxicity issue (lead), my main goal is to get rid of it and hopefully this will clear my histamine (and maybe even thyroid) issue.

zbs5,

Oh gosh yes, I did the Genova Toxic Element Clearance Profile (urine ) in 2015. Also, had all amalgam removed from teeth. Can't remember the exact protocol for everything but had to supplement copious amounts of pills for months.

Have you a practitioner to help you or are you going alone?

I'm going alone with the andy cutler protocol. It isn't hard to do, just time consuming and you have to wake up in the night to take a pill. After my research, it seems the only reasonable protocol for getting rid of different metals. They also have very good forum with many nice people (andy-cutler-chelation.com/).

zbs5,

Well done you, but have you had fillings removed as you shouldn't chelate if you still have mercury in your body?

I don't have any fillings and no indication of mercury, my issue is only lead. I'm still doing ALA and test if something comes out. Still no idea from where i have this, but as i have my symptoms since i'm a child, maybe i've ate some lead or something :)

zbs5,

No fillings! You must have lovely teeth 😊.

Unless we live on a desert island we accumulate lead from water, food, the dust we breathe. I have always lived on the coast with clean space all around but still I was full of metals!

Going back to histamine I really found the Betaine HCl useful as helped with so many issues. Histamine is broken down in the gut & liver, both of which we can have troubles with when thyroid hormones are low. You might also have some MTHFR utilisation/excretion issues going on.

Avoiding processed/fermented foods, always cooking fresh and not eating left overs, drinking loads of water will all help reduce histamine levels. Also, if you have Hashi, eating g/f because an over active immune system will increase intolerances & allergies so encouraging further histamine release.

Good luck with the chelation. It’s an enormous undertaking. I felt loads better after but it took many, many months.

Oh sorry, i have fillings (hard to not have fillings in the western world), but just not with mercury or amalgam. It is some kind of plastic.

I've already tried betaine hcl some time back and it worked really fine for digestion. My digestion is way better after i switched over to a more carnivorous diet with mostly meat and fats, and some rice. But i must say, that my histamine issues are worse on the carnivorous diet - maybe i'm not digesting the meat right and its fermenting in my gut (creating histamine issues). I will give betaine hcl a try again, thank you for reminding. What also is very helpful for digestion is Enzymedica Digest.
