Does anybody know the optimum levels for thyroid levels should be in order to ensure I have enough milk? I am currently 38 weeks plus 2. My thyroxine only went up 25mg at the start of my pregnancy and I am on my normal dose- 100mg. When I saw Professor Toft he said my dose should be 100mg.
Thanks
Emma

The British Thyroid Foundation is one of the "official" sources of information for patients on thyroid forums in the UK - they follow NHS rules. They are not a particularly popular organisation in people with complicated thyroid disease, but at least your doctor can't argue about the information they have. To find any mentions of "breastfeeding" on their site use the following search in Google or your usual search engine (I couldn't see any mention of a page or link or leaflet dedicated to just breastfeeding) :
Another way to get a lot of information from the web is to use this search in your search engine :
hypothyroidism + breastfeeding
This is worth reading - although I disagree with their comments on "dessicated thyroid hormone" or NDT. At one time it was the only treatment for hypothyroidism and women took it successfully for decades throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.
