Evening all, hope you are all well and keeping safe!
Just a quick question regarding the Medichecks Advanced Thyroid Function Test, I’ve just ordered and received my finger prick kit but noticed this time that the advisory is to stop any B12 vitamins 2 weeks before taking the test. I’ve never noticed this on the tests before now. Do you think it’s necessary to wait the 2 weeks or better safe than sorry?
Any advice welcome 🙂

The advice given by admin on here is to give up b vitamins a week before the test, so if it were me I would probably wait the 2 weeks if that’s what Medichecks feel is necessary
Essential to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before all blood tests (eg vitamin B complex) as biotin can falsely affect test results
Hi SlowDragon, I take Thorne Basic B complex which I always stop a week before because of the biotin and as a rule stop my sublingual B12 as well but never do it 2 weeks before.
I take b12 supps and b supps (which contain biotin and b12 as well )
For my first medichecks test I had kept taking the b12 supps all the way up to the test (I hadn't read the instructions! 🙄) and the active b12 result was around 70 and "everything's fine".
My next medichecks test I stopped taking both supps 2 weeks beforehand and the active b12 result was 49 and a recommendation to get an mma test to check for serious underlying deficiency. (doing this at the moment)
I'll admit my first test was a bit too close to my last biotin supps (got a cancellation and was really keen to get on with it) so the results might have been out because of this, but I feel confident about the results of the second test?
That sounds quite sensible, I may as well stop them for 2 weeks and just know for sure my results are accurate. I’m just impatient and was hoping to send them back next week 😁 x
