Results of short synachten test in. Can anyone shed any light on them?

I am told the results are normal. The test was done at 1.45pm and I had had a couple of coffees to get me out of bed and to the hospital....

Basal 516

At 60 mins 663

I don't know what the ranges are I'm afraid. It was hard enough to get the test results. The basal looks good but was it fuelled by the coffee? Wish I hadn't done that. But I have read that after the ACTH there needs to be a >200 increase in cortisol. By my calculations the rise is 147.

If anyone has any feedback on these results I'd be very grateful.

Thank you

If anything your basal level at 516nmol/Ls for 13.45 is on the high side it should be under 300nmil/Ls, so it doesn't look like you adrenal glands have any issues in producing cortisol. It's also interesting that your previous serum cortisol test done at 9am was a lot lower at 267nmol/Ls. What symptoms are you getting? Your result of 516 isn't outside the realms of Cushing's syndrome, possibly cyclical as the results vary to the normal cycle. This chart shows what a normal cycle should be.

Hi PaulineS. I have a lot of the symptoms of cushings, including the hump at the base of my neck. I feel very tired, I am sleeping 10 hours and waking really tired, I have this alarmingly red face (past 6 - 8 months) which is really wierd and worrying, blood pressure is high, no muscle strength, very sensitive to sound, emotionally not so resilient, quick to cry at things on TV for example, no enthusiasm or energy especially for walking, which I usually love, brain fog. I am about to speak with my GP again about my red face but I don't think it will get much response. Thank you so much for getting back.

I have also noticed my face looks very round. I just had a look at symptoms of cushings and a red, moon face is a symptom. Crikey

When under medicated for being hypothyroid (as you recently have been) cortisol output increases to try to compensate for lack of thyroid hormones

Suspect cortisol levels will improve as thyroid is better managed

Most recent thyroid results show under medicated

TSH 2.14 (0.27 - 4.2)

T3 4.3 (3.1 - 6.8)

Free T4 12.4 (12 - 22)

Ft4 should be at least around 18 when adequately treated
