Low Ft4, normal TSH & Ft3

Can you please tell me if it's ok to have a low-ish ft4 when the rest of the labs are normal?

I am with hashimoto.

Tsh 1,6 (0,5-4,5)

Ft3 5,5 (2,4-6,4)

Ft4 0,99 (0,7-2)

I would think that the ft4 is in parallel with ft3; if ft4 is large enough and you have good conversion then ft3 is large as well. If you have low Ft4 you don't have enough "fuel" to convert and ft3 is low as well. How can it be that ft3 is good enough and ft4 is low?

Is this normal in hashimoto or is it something peculiar? Has anyone had this as well?

How long a gap did you leave between your last dose of levo and the blood draw?

The normal 24-hour (and a little bit more).

Hmmm... Maybe that little bit more has had an effect. But, I shouldn't worry about it. It could be something to do with the Hashi's. And, it's the FT3 the most important number, anyway.

So you think that there's nothing to worry about? Thanks a lot GG!

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

Hey SlowDragon I am on 137 MCG. The test was not done so early but it is on the normal time every time I do it (I think the key is not so much the time as is the consistency). That is around 09:00-09:30. The only thing that may have disrupted the test is a cigarette prior to my blood draw. But this as well is my normal for a blood draw.

Regarding the rest of the vitamins I have a long time to test them. Do you think that a deficiency may be the cause?

Extremely common with Hashimoto’s to have very low vitamin levels

Many most Hashimoto’s patients need to supplement to maintain optimal vitamin levels

Always test at least once year

Strictly gluten free diet often helps or is essential

Get coeliac blood test done BEFORE considering trial of gluten free for 3-6 months

My daughter had low ft4 from being anaemic. It went back just into range after lots of months of supplementing by just 0.01 and of course the doctors cheered 🙄. But after more exploring it turned out she had the DIO2 gene mutation like me and her new private paediatric consultant believes her low ft4 is because of it. I’m not sure low ft4 is normal from what I’ve learned unless it’s from dosing. X
