Thyroid Assays Provide Different Diagnostic Results

This research maybe is of interest. I think it stresses the importance of using the same lab in the hope that the same type of test will be used consistently to achieve half decent reliable results over time. To me it also proofs that assays may not be as reliable as doctors would like me to believe. endocrinologyadvisor.com/ho...

thanks for sharing.

point understood but wow, what an incredibly poorly written piece. i’m having a hard time understanding how this was even approved for publication, though perhaps my hashi’s quarter-brain or some sort of difference in grammar and sentence structure in the US vs UK is the issue

somewhat unrelated, but i was looking up info on the assay my lab (labcorp) uses for tsh (range .45 - 4.5) and noticed an interesting “additional notes” section, which includes the following statement:

“In patients who are receiving replacement therapy, the dose should be adjusted so serum TSH values range from 0.3−3.0 μIU/mL. An exception is thyroid hormone replacement treatment after thyroidectomy for differentiated thyroid cancer, in which case, a mildly to moderately suppressed TSH level is generally desirable.”
