Eyes feeling odd ?

I have hashimotos - no good on Levothyroxine

A new symptom last few months - approx twice a day my eyes get drastically heavy - hard to describe - can’t see a regular pattern - eg. If I’m

Needing a dose of NDT ( Nature Throid ) or if I’ve just eaten ( I was thinking. Blood sugar ? Or thyroid ) but no pattern to go by -

Vision gets badly affected - heavy brows ? Anyone have ideas please ?

I’ve put dose up to 4 grains now -

Take supplements

On AIP

Take Bio- Identical Hormones ( I’ve read here that can affect Thyroid ?)

I get the heavy eyes, when drastically undermedicated.

It’s taken 3 years to get my private Endo to put me up to 4 grains - but it could well be in need more & (much more money to buy the NDT 😂 )! It’s a horrid feeling like all the muscles around my eyes 👀 plus the vision.

Before assuming it's the medication, have you asked yourself if thyroid is the cause of what's happening. Older people often get dry eye, but younger adults do as well. How much water are you drinking? 8 glasses (but more with thyroid) is important. Apologies if you've already asked these things. The dry eye drops for overnight are quite helpful. If you're getting double vision, that also happens more when we get older and also happens when we are using our eyes too much without a break. Unfortunately, I've found that the only reliable fix is to rest my eyes and change what I'm looking at. But that does the trick. Hope that helps a bit. If you already know all of this, consulting an optician could help.

Could it be Dry Eye ? I use drops to relieve this heaviness - from Specsavers 😎.... works well.

I think if so - then it’s pretty dramatic - I will

Look into drops & see if this helps ( I know dry eye is common in menopause) thanks -

Ooh, which drops do you use? I have dry eye but I was told to bathe 4 times a day. I use drops from chemist instead. Which drops do you use please ?

I started using these too, I think they’re pretty good but I have noticed that the other corners of my eyes and the surrounding area have tiny little spots that are becoming itchy and look as if I have put red eye shadow there. Any idea what that could be and has that happened to you?

Bletharitus ? Maybe

I’ve been using wipes for Blepharitus but I don’t have any crusting around the eyes which you normally get with that. However I’ve used most things ie heat mask, massage, cleaning only with water or pads, regularly using hycosan drops and gel before bed but it’s the itching that’s driving me nuts 😩

Ah so glad you knew the spelling ! I’d gone blank ! I remember my son had it when young - little white spots - itching is not good - my ears have started itching & tinnitus - ( since going on NDT ) but I’ll never know if that’s coincidence!

No this has not happened. Does sound like inflammation. My situation was caused by recent cataract surgery !

ooh Thank you, I will ask about it.

Could be Dry eye which is linked to menopause. One of the many horrible symptoms we can get. I’ve found the best thing is infrared light. Makes a huge difference. Also massaging around the eye area to get the fluids moving.

Dry Eyes are being investigated as one of the signs of (post) COVID infection. could that be it?

Really? Ive been having a few problems with my eyes recently, dry eyes which feels like I have sand in my eyes particularly in the morning , awful itching and redness has started. Also dry inside of my nose with bleeding when I blow it in the mornings. I am going to call my GP in the morning. I’ve been using antibiotic gel in them for two weeks which helped a bit but now I’ve stopped it seems as if it’s coming back.

I think the dryness inside nose & needing to blow more is maybe that we are having to spend more time inside at home with heating etc - I put bowls of water in rooms and open windows each morning for a while

Yes you could be right but I do go out waking etc and I have a diffuser going most of the time.

I contribute to the (St Thomas hospital) C-19 App (together with 4.5m others 😂) and they are listing symptoms reported by people. Dry eyes is one of them. They are researching so they can be more exploratory than the NHS.

I’d go along with the suggestions for dry eyes. Get some good quality preservative free dry eye drops. HycoSan, is one, Theolose is another but there are loads of others. Use them regularly throughout the day - nor just morning, noon and night and maybe use a ‘gunky’ one at bedtime. I keep drops in my bag or in a pocket and use them a lot. I accidentally found that omega 3 algae oil really helps, warm compresses help too, either buy a microwaveable eye bag from somewhere or use a face flannel squeezed out under hot water and hold it against your eyes. Remember to take regular breaks where you lookinto the distance if you are reading or using a computer screen.

Thanks for this - I’m going to get the drops suggested earlier - but this feels more like dragging , heavy brow - but I guess the only way to know is to try these drops etc ! 🥰

Ps what do you do with the omega 3 algae oil ? Take as a supplement ?

Yes, I originally bought it as part of a plan for bone friendly vitamins and minerals. When they ran out this year and I had a period without them I discovered my dry eyes got worst. This is the one I’m using - smile.amazon.co.uk/Vegan-Om...

Hope you find something to help, it’s very bothers9me when you have something like that. ☀️
