I used to order from Bennewitz but it states on their website they are no longer able to send to the UK. I think this will apply to all German pharmacies.

I will put pressure on my CCG to pay for expensive UK tablets.

Im going to have a ring round on monday and see of they will allow a courier to pick it up ,i used to order from bennwitz , but with all this covid stuff going on it completely slipped my mind. My ccg wont entertain it . Am presuming my private prescription is still good though ? Worst ways i'll get on the plane and go get it , i can't be without it too long , going back to the exhaustion is not something im prepared to do. Day trip to germany here i come.

I guess we need to clarify first whether the problem is UK prescriptions or shipping to the UK or both.

B12 purchasers have seen a resumption of deliveries from Germany.

Therefore, I think we are left with the only answer being recognition of UK prescriptions. Which has also hit the newspapers in the medicinal cannabis arena. Netherlands no longer recognising UK prescriptions.

TUK website says:

Roseway Pharmacy and some of the other pharmacies on our list do offer Thybon Henning liothyronine (which is cheaper than the UK brands) via private prescription and NHS prescription. Contact them first to find out how much it will cost you as it pays to shop around! thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

Although there have been suggestions, I am not actually aware that ANY EU pharmacy continues to accept UK prescriptions.

Some German pharmacies are willing to ship non-prescription products - such as B12 ampoules for injection (non-prescription in Germany, prescription-only in UK) - but even they have had some interruptions due to brexit and Covid-19.

Maybe a UK pharmacy would be willing to source it for you?

Yes but the cost is the issue i cant afford £3/400 a month which is what llyods were charging , at least dick turpin had the decency to wear a mask

A tiny number of people have persuaded a UK pharmacy to import Ace Cytomel from the Netherlands for them.

(This is NOT Pfizer/King Cytomel.)

The cost seems somewhat lower but I do not know how much it costs them.

Otherwise, I agree with jimh111 - the only obvious option is to get the NHS to pay.

I have heard that Roseway supply Thybon Henning at £1 per tab but give them a call to check.

You can now use U.K. specialist pharmacies

Not quite as cheap as Germany but at £1 a tablet significantly cheaper than U.K. T3

Roseway Labs will supply quickly

I have emailed a picture of my prescription to the and lets see what they say. Fingers are tightly crossed and will report back 🤞

worthingmum, There seems to be some confusion or misunderstanding going on with regard to the ability to actually 'ship' the medication, versus the legality of supplying the medication against a UK prescription.

As far as I understand things, no EU country can now fulfil a UK prescription because we are no longer part of the EU. This is why the EMA relocated from the UK to Amsterdam.

'As of 1 January 2021, EU pharmaceutical law as laid out in the ‘acquis communautaire’ applies to and in the UK in respect of Northern Ireland only.' ema.europa.eu/en/about-us/b...

EU pharmaceutical law no longer applies to the UK, although I think the above may mean that an NI presription could be honoured. If I am wrong in my understanding, no doubt someone will put me right helvella

That said, I don't know how the rules about all this actually work in Germany. Maybe an individual pharmacy can choose to sell you prescription medication if they are sure that your prescription is genuine and are prepared to take responsibility for doing so.

Anyway, we await your response from Metropolitan Pharmacy. Hopefully they will be up to date with how things work now from their side of the Brexit palava :)

Hey RA ,

Hence i was sending out emails today to check the situation and its a blanket no from all pharmacies , but i said in the email im from the uk with a private prescription so lets see worst ways they are based in munich airport so could do a there and back it not sure how it would work with customs ie would i have to declare it , who knows , i just need my medication !! But as they say watch this space!!

If the UK prescription isn't valid in EU, then going to Munich airport to collect wouldn't be an option either :)

worthingmum profile image
worthingmum

it must still be valid as otherwise she would have emailed and said we don't take uk prescriptions, i guess it's watch this space until someone gets back to me tomorrow

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to worthingmum

EU rules have always said that EU pharmacies can only dispense prescriptions written by EU registered doctors

Obviously some pharmacies might be unaware or ignoring this

So it turns out my prescription is out of date as its more than 3 months old ( i think the other pharmacy must have sent me too many as ive only just ran out ) they said the dr can email the prescription directly so i have emailed and asked him to do this , they said this is fine and they need to " check" it . Have continuously told them im from the UK ( i called them in germany ) so still waiting to see if its a go but surely they should know if they are not allowed or is it on a case by case basis and at the pharmacies discretion? Arghhhhh

So i have recieved a answer re accepting Uk prescriptions, directly from the pharmacy which i have posted below so i have emailed my endo and asked him to prescribe a 12 month dose so at least i dont have to have this hassle for a while !!

In general, prescriptions from the UK are valid until further notice.

For our customers in the United Kingdom we charge prices without the german value added tax. You must expect to pay the british tax at the courier or post office.

Hi,

Just came across your post hoping to find a way to get hold of Thybon Henning T3. Did you have any joy with the German pharmacy in the end or find an alternative source for TH to recommend?

Look for ward to hearing back:)

Best wishes,

Tamara

Tamara2468, Do you have a prescription? If yes, you can try Roseway labs or other pharmacies listed on the TUK website here thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...
