Temperature is 38.6....yet I have been very cold for days

Hi all i have been unwell for days with a sore throat, cough and cold. Be taking usual remedies, antiseptic throat spray and the occasional paracetamol. Along with symptoms mentioned above I have been very, very cold with rosy cheeks which I do not normally have. Assumed I was cold due to hypothyroidism an ignored my bright rosy cheeks. At no time did I feel like I had a high temperature....just done temp check to see how low it was because of being so cold. What a surprise I got....38.6

Question is: How can I be so cold yet have such a high temp? Used a mercury temperature.

Feeling cold and shivery is a normal reaction to having a high temperature.

Thanks bantam I was very cold but not shivery at all nor did I ever burn up. I, in all my ignorance, always assumed one had to feel hot and feverish in order to have a high temp. Well I love and learn.

Kind regards

Feeling cold with a raised temperature is the classical response to infection. With your symptoms suspect covid until proven otherwise.

Yes I agree with you that I have an infection somewhere in my body because my aching kidneys keep me awake for most of the night. GP surgery is closed today so unable to contact them. Imagine they will just tell me to phone 111 anyway. Suppose, covid test centres are closed in my area too but will get checked out tomorrow. The good thing is I have a course of antibiotics at hand which I have started taking.

Probably just a bad cold or flu-like illness, same as it would have been last year. Just go on treating sensibly and stay in bed until you feel better. Certainly don't go out to a testing centre and risk infecting other people with whatever you have.

You could always have a covid test just to make sure. My husband has had two and both were negative but it gave him peace of mind.

Will get covid test tomorrow but I am baffled as to how I could have got covid.....been living in isolation for months. Do believe I have a kidney infection though...Two months ago I was prescribed anticoagulants and told by cardio nurse to get a renal blood test in 8 weeks via my GP. I requested renal blood test from my surgery and they refused to do one. Not saying the anticoagulant actually caused kidney infection but going by cardio nurse telling me to get renal test after being on these meds for 8 weeks, obviously they can effect the kidneys.

Ohhh I despair being reliant on NHS care.

Ask your doctor if they can test your urine because that will show if you have a kidney infection or not. I actually use urine dipsticks to check my own urine because I have had several kidney infections in the past and kidney stones. I think you can get them from a chemist or Amazon.

Thanks Lora will get some dipsticks tomorrow, hope they are easy to read.

They have a key on the bottle so you are simply looking for colour changes. Wait for urine to cool first. Use sterile glass jar to collect unless you have a spare urine container about.

Yes they are you just match the colour on the dipstick to the colour chart on the container.
