CONSIDERING NDT?

GKeith profile image
48 Replies

I know there's a lot of brands of NDT & a lot of controversy but if I was to go on it, which brand should I concentrate on? Anybody taking it at this time or previously? I am seriously considering it; being as I've tried everything else and everything else has failed me.

There is one NDT available in the USA. It was developed by one of Thyroiduk's Advisers who was in the UK. He was a scientist/researcher/doctor.

He deliberately made it so that no prescription was required and his widow now deals with this NDT. I will give a link - just in case you would like to trial it.

It’s out of stock due to not being about to get raw materials . I was taking it so now I’m trying to find another alternative

shaws profile image
shawsAdministrator in reply to Blackpanther46

That's awful not to be able to source any. That's the problem with smaller suppliers, if raw material isn't available then no products can be made.

Yes you can buy Thyro-Gold in the UK. I have been doing so since June 2015.

Yes it contains T4 and T3. I have been monitored by my NHS GP and frequent NHS blood tests for fT4 and fT3 prove it has T4 and T3 in it.

Maybe send a message to ask for info and I hope your successful.

I know it’s awful that we are not allowed to choose for ourselves it seems how we want to be treated for thyroid issues it seems that only T4 is all there is but so many people don’t do well on it yet we can’t get the right treatment

I am in the U.S. where, it is I'm sure, as in most of this world: Capitalism (money) that reigns far and wide. You can "buy" anything here, including thyroid meds, etc. Usually you have to have a perscription but that is for sale here also. The problem is who you will have to deal with and many people will sell you stuff (pills, etc.) that can kill you as well as cure you so you must be aware of this. This includes many doctors & medical professionals., believe it or not. So tread lightly. I realize to many people this is a life or death situation but we must all experience and then help others to learn the truth so that we can all help one another by telling the truth, our stories, and swapping information with our hearts to help ourselves as well as others, so that we can heal instead of hurting and being hurt by this horrible thyroid disease, as well as this pandemic. Peace.

Hey there

I think you'll need to consider parking this idea for a good few months.

Currently there is only stock of some NDT - I think just two brands in the USA :

If you have a prescription of course the situation is a little different and you will find details of the UK pharmacies stocking NDT on the Thyroid uk website.

GKeith profile image
GKeith in reply to pennyannie

Thanks, the U.S is big on sales of T4 only for obvious reasons, the money is with Big Pharma and the truth suffers on every purchase some makes of T4 only. Peace be upon us all in this pandemic nightmare.

Actually, the main problem with supplies at the moment is in sourcing raw material to make NDT. It’s becoming harder and harder for NDT manufacturers to find pigs that haven’t been infected with various viruses.

You can make a conspiracy theory out of that too if you wanted to, I guess—but that’s how things are right now. So if you can get your hands on any brand of NDT, it’s eye-wateringly expensive. I’ve got around 6m supply left after managing to scrape some barrels and scouring every online pharmacy I could find but after that, if things don’t get better, I’ll be looking at having to have levothyroxine. Not good.

It would be cruel indeed to find that NDT suits you too, only to find you can’t keep taking it because you can’t source any. :(

Dr John Lowe developed an NDT so that it didn't need a prescription. He died due to an accident and his widow, Tammy Lowe is now dealing with this.

I will give you a link and it might be helpful to you plus lots of other info in the link:

These "experts," doctors all, endo's, etc. are literally, killing us and not even realizing how horrid we so many times feel. Peace be uponus all, esp. in these pandemic times. And may our hopes turn into healing, our healing turn into helping others and our helping others become contagious, as the good Lord empowers us to share whatever small experiences we have in order to empower other sufferers, so we can live healthy for at least a small portion of our lives. Peace be upon us all, in this Pandemic, as if Hypo/hyper ain't enough of a curse for us all. And anyone Eurthyroid please be blessed enough to share your insights? Peace

I am afraid I have to agree. I usually don´t comment on people´s opinions, religious or political or otherwise, but this is too much. All this talk about God and peace has no place here. I think most of us realised a long time ago we would have to sort out our health problems without divine intervention.

i think the question is which can you obtain and how much can you afford. i just looked up the cost of armour or np thyroid which are the only ones available from my source ( since Nature throid & WP thyroid are off the market for now) for the dose i’m on 5 grains they cost between 150-300£ before tax and customs......

GKeith profile image
GKeith in reply to london81

5 grains? Isn't that about 200 mcg's T4 & 50 mcg's T3? Here, in the U.S. if an endo will prescribe it, most insurances will cover it. So, it's, basically, just the endo's decision.

london81 profile image
london81 in reply to GKeith

ah ok i thought you were in the uk sorryyes it’s 195 t4 and 45 t3 and my levels are optimal i need quite a lot of medication to feel normal sadly (especially bad for my finances )

GKeith profile image
GKeith in reply to london81

Man, that's a lot of T3, but then I was so hooked on T3 myself I took as much as I could resource and ended up trying so much I couldn't think straight with brain fog and dizziness. I realize people need different doses but I am afraid I am getting more and more afraid of these pills than these pills are getting afraid of me. Peace be upon us all in these times.

fair enough however i’ve been taking this for 6 years and approved for discharge by two consultant endocrinologists in nhs so i’m happy to take it while i can afford and i monitor BP heart rate and symptoms of over medication, plus i get my bloods tested privately

I’m in the U.S. and use Armour Thyroid. Some of the other brands have been recalled. That has been an issue for a few years. You could also consider adding a small amount of liothyronine (T3) to levothyroxine(T4).

Before trying something else new, have you stuck to ONE dose of your hormone replacements for 6-8 weeks yet?

Lora7again profile image
Lora7again in reply to

I agree .... swapping and changing things too often does not give it a chance to work. Thyroid disease is not a quick fix unfortunately and it took me months of trying something before I actually saw any changes in how I felt.

I have taken three kinds of NDT (ERFA, compounded and NP thyroid). Allof them have worked well for me. I cannot manage on synthetic thyroid.

Debon profile image

I take Thyroid-S, but I much prefer Thiroyd. For me it was the answer. The synthetic stuff did not help me at all.

Sorry if I've offended you in any way Geeling, but, then, I wasn't speaking to you.

RockyPath profile image

NP Thyroid is currently available in the US. I filled a prescription for 100 tablets for $35 using a GoodRx coupon. I haggled with my PCP to get an order for a full bottle as it’s packed at the factory for shipment to pharmacies. Otherwise you’re paying $35 for 30 tablets from CVS. Walgreens is a little higher. But the coupon prices vary by your zip code. 🤔And it’s terrible how no insurance companies have NDT on their formularies.

GKeith profile image
GKeith in reply to RockyPath

There are some but you have to have a perscription from an endo; at lease here in Florida!

How to find a good doctor in USA

stopthethyroidmadness.com/h...

RockyPath profile image
RockyPath

Primary Care Physicians will write prescriptions for thyroid hormones in Florida. You just have to find a competent one, which can be extremely challenging. There’s an oversupply of incompetence at present.

GKeith profile image
GKeith in reply to RockyPath

They have to be "in touch" with the insurance company when they write the perscription.

GKeith profile image
GKeith

Where are you?

RockyPath profile image

In your case you’d do well to stick with an endocrinologist who can guide your journey. Typically they have nutritionists on staff to help ensure you’re eating appropriately.
