Beta blockers will help with symptoms, especially palpitations. Was it propranolol? It’s usually intended to be temporary and propranolol does have a mild affect on FT4 to FT3 conversion, so useful while hyper. (Not useful if you are hypo).

Good you are getting the right tests done. Is a referral to a specialist being arranged?

Hi jenny , pleased to hear you're getting the test for Graves antibodies. and that they 've given you something in the meantime." this was found out by accident I had thyroid test done by my doctor because I was so exhausted he said it was fine but I had arthritis in my hands and had see a specialist at the hospital it was her that said I want blood test done and she called me at home and told me I had hyperthyroidism and she has sent a letter to my doctor "

Did GP have any explanation/apology for why they didn't suspect hyperthyroidism when you first went to them. One day it would be interesting to find out the results of the first thyroid test that they did.

I wonder if they just did TSH and didn't do an fT4 with it, or was this quite a while ago and maybe your blood results really did look ok then.

Anyway it's academic now 'cos at least the arthritis specialist noticed your symptoms and asked for another blood test.

Still , it's a bit concerning that the GP missed it, perhaps they need educating. :)

Yes the thyroid test the doctor done he said was fine but the doctor at the hospital was quite shocked as she said the results don’t lie your very hyperthyroid and as I said she has written to him I’ve got a blood test on the 19th for graves and beta blockers at the moment fingers crossed they find the medication thank you for replying .

I really wonder why people wishing to become doctors seem to have had very little training in diagnosing a patient who has a problem with their thyroid glands. It is amongst the most common autoimmune diseases.

Ask for your test results, you are legally entitled to them. Not only will it help you going forward to see the results change, it may also embarrass your GP to be more careful in future.
