Choking attack
Mine was the size of a golf ball and it was choking me when I'd turn my head to the side. Mine grew fast and I had it removed.
As far as I know I don’t have a goitre but I do get choking attacks. I also have asthma and the meds can cause this too.
Hello I have not had a choking attack that scared me, that must have been awful for you, but I do wake in the night with a dry throat that causes a cough, and a dry cough through day. I put that down to thyroid but I don’t have a goitre.
Request an ultrasound scan of thyroid via GP or endocrinologist
Or private ultrasound scan is approximately £150
I have details of London scan options, pm me if you want info
I live in the Midlands can you recommend any scan options nearer to home.
And this one in B’hamultrasoundplus.co.uk/neck-u...
And this

Probably more too...that was just quick search
It could be a goitre, so a scan would be a good idea.
An allergic condition that sometimes occurs alongside thyroid disorders, eosinophilic oesophagitis, can cause similar problems. My husband has this, as does MichelleHarris
After referral from my NHS Endo due to multiple deficiencies I spoke to an NHS Gastroenterologist and had an Endoscopy of my stomach which showed some Duodenitis and they also took swabs from my Oesophagus which I didnt realise at the time because of my complaints of cough and swallowing which was worsening. It got incredibly uncomfortable and the pain radiated out into my chest but much improved with NDT, Low Dose Naltrexone and a Gluten and Dairy free diet. I never had any problems until I started Thyroid replacement last year. I am awaiting treatment for the OE but due to Covid the Jorveza medication is not being made x
I hope your meds will be in production again before too long.
Interesting that you only developed EO after taking levo. Since it's an allergic condition, I'm wondering about the fillers, but no doubt you've looked at those. I agree that going gluten- and dairy-free is one of the first things to try.
I've noticed I have fewer attacks of internal throat swelling since I went completely gluten free earlier this year, and probably I should try going dairy-free again. My husband has been hard to persuade about diet, but since he's stuck at home most of the time now, I'm not allowing gluten into the house!
I dont know why being Gluten and Dairy makes a difference but it does. I could eat it before so why not now.
Yes its something in Thyroid replacement ongoing which doesnt suit me but I dont know what it is. Or at least something in Thyroid replacement triggered an auto immune response along with a Sjogrens type flare which damaged my parotids. I am miserable without LDN. It really does make a big difference. I understand its an anti inflammatory, so that makes sense. Its all one big puzzle. I tried Liquid Levo but it stuck to my throat and made me cough a lot so back to ThyroidS because at least I feel physically better on that than Levo.
I suggest Liege asks for an Endoscopy. I think a lot of people on here who complain of throat symptoms actually have had OE triggered by Thyroid replacement. Apparently its very underdiagnosed - surprise surprise x
Ask your gp for LDN, where I live I introduced it to gp but it took two yrs before they would give it me.If gp wont give it write to mp, keep pushing, don’t give up.
Have you contacted Dickson's in Glasgow about the LDN? I get mine from them (rheumatoid arthritis). Dr Myhill prescribed it for me for years, but she can longer prescribe any meds at all because of her problem getting indemnity insurance. Apparently, Dickson's have an arrangement with a private clinic who will prescribe LDN for autoimmune conditions at a "reasonable" charge. I haven't set up my arrangement with the clinic as yet, so I don't know how reasonable it really is.
I think I need a other scan like you all suggest .Probably need to be a private one as the NHS has virtually ground to a halt . Thanks for your replies
I had trouble swallowing and this would set me off on a severe panic attack. I was never diagnosed with Hashi or tested but was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2016 and after thyroidectomy my swallowing issues did stopped.
Yes I started doing that a coupla years ago, turned out to be asthma, nearly died, could not get a breath in to speak on 999 call,I had complained about it to drs but they never took me seriously, only way I knew it was asthma was because inhalers relieve it.Have a wheezy cough with it.
Also have a node on my throat that they haven't bothered to investigate since 10yrs ago
I have choking attacks on and off and they are quite scary. Feels as though my airway is closed off. Thing which helps is to relax as much as possible and try to take a sip of water. It is very tiring.
