Qustions about T3

I'm finally preparing to see a private Dr (from the list from Thyroid UK) as I am keen to try and see if adding T3 will help me to feel better. Mostly I'm hoping for being less tired and lethargic, being able to concentrate better, and hopefully losing some weight.

What are people's experiences of having T3?

And is it realistic to think that I might actually feel better and get the benefits isted above that I am hopeful of?

Your most recent blood tests were as follows:

TSH 0.19 (0.27-4.2) and T4 16.5 (10.5-24.5)no Free T3

July 2019: TSH 0.04 (0.27-4.2), T4 17.6 (10.5-24.5) no free T3

August 2019: TSH 0.014 (0.27-4.20), T4 19.3 (12-22), Free T3 4.12 (3.1-6.8) (Private test)

These show a big drop in free T4 in the last year and the only free T3 result was only 27% through range.

I'm a "poor converter" and have found T3 meds to be transformative - completely back to my "old self" and have lost the "levo weight". I like both free T4 and free T3 to be nice and high in range.

So with your free T4 falling and now less than half-way through range, I'd say there's no need to adjust your levo - so start on lio nice and slow, building up from say 1/4 tablet so you add another 1/4 tablet each 10 days until you're on a whole tablet (slower if you find it too strong), maybe splitting the dose initially, and then hold for 6 - 8 weeks and re-test TSH (which will inevitably drop) free T4 and free T3. Build up really slowly so you don't miss your "sweet spot".

Be aware that lio doesn't suit everyone, and in particular is only useful to help a conversion problem - it's not a miracle pill or weight loss cure ... but for a LOT of us, it's great :)

Thanks fuchsia-pink, this is really helpful.

GP won't test for T3, hence having the private test done last year, won't discuss it and says it is unnecessary. It seems to me that the result of the private test indicates that my conversion isn't great, and that therefore adding in T3 might help.

I think (at least I hope!) that I'm not expecting a miracle cure from it, but to say that I feel 'well' now would be a lie. 🙂

Absolutely essential BEFORE starting any T3 is too get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

As per previous post

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Come back with new post once you get full results

If vitamins aren’t OPTIMAL T3 is difficult or impossible to tolerate

Plus you will need FULL test results to take to consultation

I've just been struggling so much to manage the day to day stuff that I've not really got on top of this at all. Will try to arrange a private test as soon as possible.
