Bruising
Hi there - you can bruise by taking too much thyroid hormone - or are you taking any supplements ? Fish oils can thin the blood and make this happen and Vitamin E - Magnesium is also a blood thinner- can you let me know what you are taking?
I’m now on folic acid, levothyroxine 25 & 50 alternative days also vit D 1000iu
Hi thanks for sending details - none of these should cause this - although the D might be bringing in calcium and if you levels are too high that could cause an issue. But it might also be that you have knocked yourself without realising or another thing that causes bruising is being anaemic - so difficult today but can you get your iron levels checked somehow.
Sorry forgot - it could be low Vitamin C and I bet it is - as you are taking thyroid hormone it will be putting your adrenals under strain and they will need extra C and will pull all the vitamin C it needs from anywhere it can (the adrenals have the most Vitamin C than anywhere else in the body).
Quote" What is vitamin deficiency bruise?
Sign of a Vitamin Deficiency: Bruising. Collagen is a structural protein that aids in the maintenance and repair of blood vessel walls and other connective tissue. When a person does not get enough Vitamin C, their body can bruise more easily. They may also experience joint pain, a weakened immune response and slower healing of wounds. Unquote"
Might be a good idea to take a good quality Vitamin C 1,000 mg.
Have you had dose increase in levothyroxine
Previous post shows you are under medicated
Alongside all my hormone deficiencies I also lack vitamin B12 which when I need a jab causes me to bruise very easy - might be worth getting levels checked ? X
You need to get any unexplained bruising checked with GP.
Unexplained bruising should always be monitored and you should watch out for more bruises. If more appear please contact your gp as it can be a sign of an underlying condition not related to thyroid.
Babesia infection can cause bruising and is a common co infection of Lyme these infections also lead to Hashimotos
If it continues to happen, please see a doctor to rule out other, underlying causes.
I had one unexpected bruise that looked a bit like yours but smaller. My GP told me that I must have hit myself without realising. After a while it disappeared but it reappeared in the same place a few weeks later.
In the meantime, I was told that my platelets are low and they remained low at another blood test but then I was put in touch with a haematologist who told me that they will have to redo the blood test using a special substance which will allow the platelets to be counted in a more rigorous way; this time they appeared in a better “light” after this last test although not at a high number but a bit higher than in my previous blood tests. All this is to let you know that you should look at your platelets on top of lack of vitamins, etc.
The haematologist sent me a booklet with details of health problems connected with small number of platelets. Hope your platelets are in sufficient number!
Hi Lo06 my husband had this recently and doctor said it was "Senile purpura" due to age and thinning of skin and it was nothing to worry about, he is 81. Take care x
