Cramp

Hello All,

For the last few months, I am getting cramps in my feet and legs.

I stretch before bed, and walk a fair bit - not sat all day!

Taking magnesium, eating nuts and dried fruit, staying hydrated with plenty of water, and even put soap in my bed - to no avail!

Getting a bit worried, as nothing seems to stop them - even in the daytime, I sometimes feel my toes wanting to curl.

Going to get my bloods done again, as being hypothyroid, I believe cramps are a side effect, unfortunately.

Any suggestions welcome, thank you.

Dear Lydia8132,

OUCH! I get Cramps... but, Nothing Like YOU do. Do you have enough Salt, something we are often told to 'Cut Down' on.... But you can have Too Little, a symptom? Cramps in the legs..... Just a 'Thought'.

I take plenty of magnesium but on the odd occasion I still get a cramp in my foot. When this happens I immediate take New Era Mag Phos (tiny little fast melt tablets) and rub on some magnesium gel. In 3 or 4 minutes the cramp has gone.

Cramp and other problems related to muscle spasm are common in people with thyroid disease. I wrote a reply to someone on the subject of cramp that you might find helpful :

I too suffer from cramp. I have done for very many years. I now use magnesium but still suffer when my T3 falls. I have been having a number of spells recently and find myself walking around the bedroom for 15-20 minutes in the early hours. I try to stay well hydrated and eat a packet of crisps to add salt.

Magnesium and other electrolytes (Hydralyte drink) work a treat for me but sometimes it can be a sign of Vitamin D deficiency. Also, drinking excessive water will flush out much needed minerals (electrolytes) from your body. Have you had your vitamin D checked? Vitamin deficiencies are very common with thyroid issues.
