Antihistamines and cramp

Hello All,

does anyone have problems with feet and legs cramps at night?

I have read that Cetirizine (antihistamine) with hypothyroid med's can be the cause of these cramps.

I do stretches before going to bed, but every now and again, the cramps come back with a vengeance for a week or so, then ease off again.

I know (as far as possible) I am not lacking in minerals etc. so would be interested if anyone else is in the same boat as me.

Thank you x

Frequently low magnesium or low iron

Obviously both common when hypothyroid

When were vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin last tested?

I also take Cetirizine hydrochloride like yourself on a daily basis.

I do get lots of cramps. Salt baths really help, keeping hydrated and I do take magnesium before bed, Viridian is very good one. And maybe try the magnesium sprays too when you have a cramp attack.

I regularly combine with cetirizine, initially to help with levothyroxine side effects and poor sleep and yes now you come to mention it leg cramps! I had thought this was too much salt since I’m getting all my other minerals etc... where did you read about the cetirizine link?

Hello, I have looked everywhere, and of course, now I can't find the site! I will keep looking. It is obviously not a common opinion.

Hi, Lydia8132,

I’m interested in knowing how you know you aren’t lacking in one or more of the essential minerals.

Cramps typically are complaints from tissues experiencing starvation of some essential operational factor(s).

Pharmaceuticals, and unbalanced supplementation, can deplete mineral stores. Zinc supplements, for example, will deplete copper stores. Many drugs cause depletion as a byproduct of regular use, but the prescriber either doesn’t know this or doesn’t bother to inform.
