Silly question time my thyroxine dosage has been lowered from 125mg to 100mg. I have some 25mg left over. Is it okay to take 4 x 25mg , so i can get rid of them. Or is it advisable not too

It's fine to take 4 x 25mcg but maybe hang onto some in case you feel the need to increase if you become symptomatic on the lower dose. You'd then have some to experiment with and fine tune dose if necessary, you could cut them into halves or quarters.

If you have enough for a few weeks you could also Take the opportunity trial split dosing levothyroxine..... maybe bedtime, waking and middle of the day. In theory this is more physiological although you could lose a little from slightly reduced daytime absorption. For me it’s much the best regime. No levothyroxine side effects at all.

Can I ask what kind of side effects you are, or were having?

feeling hyper and hypo symptoms all mixed up, cluster headaches, hot feet! slow pulse/fast pulse fatigue yet feeling rushing metabolism in my head like over medicated but couldn't be.. generally unstable. I suspect t4 while not providing sufficient total T4 was coming in too big a dose each time, temporarily excessive and therefore a bit hyperthyroid at the same time reducing t4 t3 conversion even though t3 was insufficient according to blood test and other symptoms - could never establish a stable dose because every day felt like a challenge to deal with the same amount of levothyroxine I now take more of but split 4 x a day...

Thank you for that. I would probably benefit from splitting my dose but it’s fitting it in between meals and other meds. I find 4 in the morning is a good time to fit in with the meds but I have been waking up with a headache, sometimes it goes quickly other times it can last all morning.

the only reason for separating it is absorption of t4...... find the regime that suits you then adjust the dose to account for whatever absorption you get that way.... for me my split dosing reduces absorption from 70 to 65% which is a great loss and I can increase levothyroxine by 25 mcg once a week to compensate
