Hi there.. anyone out there have any idea how to boost conversion of Ft4 to Ft3...naturally without going down Drug route!!@i.e diet..vits..etc..
How to boost Ft3 conversion: Hi there.. anyone... - Thyroid UK
How to boost Ft3 conversion
Getting all four vitamins optimal
Strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet may help
Regular (limited) exercise
Making sure to take levothyroxine well away from anything other than water
No vitamins or other medications within 2 hours
Four hours for calcium rich foods, iron, magnesium, HRT and ppi
Always getting same brand of levothyroxine
But even after all these steps....common to still need T3 added
Thank you so much..taking drugs for anything always has consequences!!am truly trying everything...hardest of all is Gluten free!!!my husband loves cake and I get to make it!! Thanks again..
T3 is not a drug, and doesn't have any consequences. It is a hormone, and just replaces the hormone your thyroid can no-longer make enough of.
Although going gluten-free might help with some of your symptoms, it is very doubtful it will help with conversion. Have you tried taking selenium to improve conversion? That works for some people.
I am off to get selenium suppliment now....thankyou...will try anything..will dance with the devil if it helps..
Not sure you should be buying it in the High Street, though. This is what you need: 200mcg selenium l-selenomethionine. And the chances of the local Health Food Store having that one are pretty slim.
You are dead right!!!high street did not have it but Natures Best online do 200 one a day...they have one with added A.C and E...but I already Take supp for A and D3 so maybe 200 will be ok..dont want to overdose...!!!
Try to avoid multis at all times. They are never a good idea. Supplements are far better taken individually. If you look on Amazon, you're sure to find exactly the one you want, with nothing else in it. Oh, and it does need to be the one I mentioned, not any other form.
finding ways to lower stress on your body (meditating, getting proper sleep, allowing for social support etc) is also huge in improving conversion. Mag and Zinc help as well as Selenium. In all cases, esp Zinc and Selenium, regular testing and breaks from the nutrients are important as overdoing it can have negative impacts, including leading to imbalances of other nutrients. I have a high selenium diet (fish, grassfed meats, etc) so overdoing selenium is quite easy for me. best of luck!
Thank you v.much for your comments ...I have a very peaceful life mostly!!lots of sleep..good diet... though not loads of meat..lots of fruit and veg and sea air every day...!except when the dreaded screamers are upon me...occasionally !.it does not take much to set me off..!!!.used to be the calmest person..never lost it.!!..thyriod has changed all that... taking vit D3.1000 per day...vit B12 1000 per day..Vit A.500 day and now starting selenium 200mcg per day...last blood test showed TSh 1.9 ...it was 6.9 last blood test!!! Felt I had to die...increased levo by extra .25 every other day and it is going down..Ft4 was quite high but Ft3 was low...but doc said "normal" well I know myself it is not right or normal!!(exhaustion..bad temper ..aches all over...weak muscles ..vision problems...how can that be normal!!! I am going to be my own advocate and want to see if I can boost Ft3 and hopefully feel better without more drugs!!! Dance with the Devil if necessary!!!thankyou for replying and will try to meditate a bit as well...Though I am a fidget and find it hard to sit down for long..though some days cant move!! My head is telling me to get on with this or that but my body wont let me...Its got to get better?? Has it not...hope so..
lucky you on the sea air and peaceful life! i had similar symptoms and also medium high t4 but low t3. tried hard to convert better myself but no luck - spent a year doing that. eventually i just started on T3. still working on getting that in order but i have hope. i hope your efforts to improve conversion work better than mine but if not there are other options to try so don’t give up.
