I finally got my husband to get his vit D tested. I've attached the result. I can't find the numerical range but it looks to be 65-105ish?
If so he's 39% through the range. Is this good enough? Should he take a low dose supplement to boost it up? His level is fine but could it be better or should he leave well alone? 😂
There are no "ranges" as such for Vit D. There are categories, as you can see from the results the categories are
Deficient
Insufficient
Adequate
Replete
Excess
Each category has a lower and upper limit.
Your husband's result is 76pmol/L and is considered to be in the "Replete" category.
However, it is on the lowish side when you consider that the Vit D Council recommends a level of 125nmol/L and the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L.
It's not bad but could be better, particularly as a good level of Vit D is suggested for immunity, especially at this time with Covid-19.
If he wants to improve his level and reach the level recommended, he could supplement with 3,000iu D3 daily, along with D3's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7 - and retest in 3 months.
While a decent vitD level is good generally, it is the Covid implications that pushed him to test. I guess I'll need to start sharing my supplements now!
Yes, whilst there is a lot of evidence that good Vit D levels are helpful in the current situation, I find it puzzling that the "advisors" aren't bringing this to the public's attention.
Yes, I find it strange. There is an American Dr who has promoted vit D & C as an immune booster to help prevent against covid but I don't think I've heard any of the British Bigwigs promote it.
Mind you, I try not to watch too much covid coverage.
It's not really a range, just low or high levels that are harmful. His level is 'replete' which means it's where it should be. Perhaps supplement a little during the winter when we get less sunshine.
