Looking for some advice on my dose of t3

Hi all, A bit of background first, wasn't feeling too well for a few month had gallbladder out in Oct 19 then had a bad virus in Nov which took me 2months to get over then had another virus again in February and generally didn't feel great for some few months, I'm on T3/T4 combo 75/100 levo alternate days and 12.5 mcg T3 daily taken in three doses, and it wasn't till I had my thyroid function tested by endo in March 2020 that I noticed my T4 and T3 levels had both reduced significantly:

Results from20/2/19 was feeling well at these levels.

Ft4- 18.5 range 11-22

Ft3 6 range 3.1- 6.8

Tsh 0.02 range 0.27- 4.20

Results from 23/3/20 feeling crap at these levels

Ft4- 15.8 range 11-22

Ft3 5 range 3.1-6.8

Tsh suppressed

So managed to get telephone appointment with endo in June 2020 she is pretty good and will listen to me and increased my T3 from 12.5 mcg daily to 15 mcg daily and which I've been on for six weeks and feeling so much better but my latest test shows T3 over range details as follows:

Ft4- 16.4 range 11-22

Ft3 7 range3.1-6.8

Tsh suppressed

So on these results endo wants me to reduce my T3 again and suggests taking 12.5mcg daily for 5 days a week and then 2days at 10mcg!

My question is it ok to take a different amount of T3 two days a week as I've always thought you should take the same amount every day as it's not a storage hormone like levo Would be interested to know your views and is there any info that I could quote to the endo that would show this.thanks for reading my rather long post.xx

You're only a tiny bit over-range. Did you leave 8 - 12 hours from previous dose of lio before having blood test done (as recommended on this site)? More importantly, how do you feel?

I'd be uncomfortable about varying the lio dose - as you say it's not a storage hormone. But I don't have a useful scientific link - hopefully someone will pop along in a bit who does :) Also, I'd be worried that, once reduced, it would be a real battle to get it increased back again if this didn't work.

An alternative might be to reduce your levo very slightly. That will reduce your free T4 and your freeT3 a bit - but hopefully get you back in range. Maybe suggest dropping 25 mcg on alternate days?

You can't take different doses of T3. You need to take the same dose daily.

I would reduce T3 to your previous 12.5 mcg daily to lower your level of ft3. I notice a difference after 3 or 4 days but give it a 6 - 8 weeks if you want to do bloods again.

I would then look to increasing levo. The levo increase will bring your FT4 up and depending on how well you convert your FT3. You want to get your FT4 back up to the 18 ish level to see if you feel well on it again. Then see what your FT3 level ends up at and take it from there.

This is based on what I am currently doing with my combo to try to get both the frees at levels where I feel well. However you must trust your own instinct too as to whether this might work for you.

Not what you're looking for?
