Can’t test until 7pm

Hi. I need to get blood tests done as I’m feeling really unwell & GP going away (so need them done tomorrow) but the only one I can get is at 7pm.

So - do I take my thyroxine in the morning (7am) as usual? I’m guessing no. Also - how much will it differ because of the time (I always get mine done before 9am)?

I’ve been on thyroxine for 2 months, just starter dose, but GP concerned I’m having the thyroiditis symptoms again (I’ve got a lot of pain in my thyroid & feeling awful). Endocrine surgeons said that I could get it again & swing into thyrotoxicosis again.

Whatever it is, I feel effing horrendous.

You need a 24 hour gap between your last dose of levo and the blood draw. Any longer will give you a false low, and any less than 24 hours will give you a false high.

But, the main problem with having a blood draw at 7 pm is that your TSH will be a lot lower than it would at 9 am. And, as doctors only tend to look at the TSH, this could work against you. They just do not seem to understand that TSH varies throughout the day.

That’s what I was worrying about. I can’t get a morning account before he goes away. Ughhh.

Ah ok. I’ve gone online & “lied” saying it’s a hospital outpatient referral (rather than GP) & got Weds at 8.40am. Hopefully GP will see it before he leaves. I don’t want to mess it up with a 7pm appointment.

If GP doesn’t see it, one of the others will have to deal with me! 🤣 Thank you! I’m glad (AGAIN) that I asked. X
