Messed up thyroid

So I am 17 and always had minor depression, that would come and go which was weird, and inconvienient because I could feel good all day and then and just go into brain fog and depression randomly, which was noticeable to others , which put me at a disadvantage in life. Now I tried my best to keep this fog away by working out , cold showers, focus on work, and I might be feeling pretty confident more like my self then get hit with fog and would disrupt my plans, make me skip work, important events, not want to hang out with my girl friend, and she would feel a weird vibe from me and it just made everything bad. I even suffered from erevtile dysfunction AT 17. So with research I found out I was depressed, did not even know I was all through out high school. So I decided to start taking fat burners which I knew were laced with Levothyroxine( because I I presume my thyroid is causing my depression) which I still think it may be the cause. So I started the fat burners and was cured from my depression for the first month, i had the energy i felt like I was lacking, able to control anxiety, memory improved, and sexual function was cured. Then one day I feel like all the Levothyroxine stacked up in my system and got put into a hyper thyroid state I think. So I stopped taking the pills instantly and for days after I felt extremely depressed like no other, like my brain was just saturated in seritonin or dopamine, but whatever I was very tired depressed, but extremely sexually active, anyways That hyper state went away no thank for but now I have developed a thyroid cyst that hurts bad, and just haven’t felt the same since before I started taking the pills, before the pills I felt like I had hope for my depression now I don’t. If I some one can help me that would be appreciated also was interested in neurotropics

Not sure if it will help but there is a great book on Amazon the miraculous cure for all diseases Jeff Boyles about High doses of vitamin D3 along with K2-MK4, magnesium and zinc. It's Great explanation of why we need Way higher doses of vitamin D3. Explains everything of why the recommendations are way to low. It has helped thousands of people with many different aliaments .The price is only $4 if you have a kindle.

Does it explain why some people are utterly unable to take ANY vitamin D supplements at all - without suffering many very unpleasant "side effects"?

That is, I think, the great vitamin D question which needs answering but is almost invariably ignored or dismissed.

Yes....Vitamin D in any form is a complete no-no for me. They make me very unwell and I have tried different types. Doctor does not believe me and there is virtually no literature about this but anecdotal evidence from others with the same issue can be found on the internet.....often linked to autoimmunity......interestingly, it has been suggested that Vitamin D pumps up the immune system....something some of us may not need if our immune system is already over-active.

This topic interests me very much. I recently took notice that when I supplement with vitamin "D" whether it's from cholecalciferol or cholecalciferol from lichen (D3)which is for (vegans) even just a low 1000 IU I get muscle/joint pains. Backing off from vitamin "D" helps me with my muscle/joint pains. Even when adding 600 mg magnesium citrate and sometimes more to relieve my pain/discomfort. I was wondering if others have the same reactions to vitamin "D" in any form ? Also if some have the same reactions to Calcium too?

I never notice it for myself - spray or capsule, any dose I have ever tried. I pretty much don't notice it at all.

But I am well aware that others are seriously adversely affected.

Maybe magnesium is something to consider - but if it is as simple as that, why does there appear to have been a concerted front of denying any issues exists? (Rhetorical! :-) )

Thank you Helvella for your kind response. With adding magnesium at 600 mg to 900 mg it relives it somewhat . Eliminating vitamin "D" from my daily nutrient is *most helpful* for me.

I was just wondering if we might be getting enough vitamin "D" from the foods we eat Eg salmon and fatty sea foods, egg and therefore we get enough of vitamin "D" we need and therefor don't need to supplement more? Though I don't eat eggs since I don't do well with eggs.

If you get joint/muscle pains with vitD and you don’t do well with eggs, is it possibly the vitD in the eggs upsetting your system?

I'm also wondering if my vitamin "D" supplements causing me symptoms is related to my MTHFR gene.

I know some people have test results which show low (as in truly deficient). Maybe some simply don't need as much?

first thing's first...... Have you asked your doctor to do a thyroid function blood test , or done one yourself ?

You need this information before you start adding thyroid hormones.

Second thing..... These 'fat burners that are laced with Levthyroxine' almost certainly it will not be Levothyroxine, but if you tell us what it's called or 'ingredients' we'll be able to tell you more.

I'm afraid it's too long since i was 17 and so my brain has packed in for today , but it sound to me you do need some safe advice .

Stick around on here and do some reading , someone will eventually be along to give it . but for now it's important to say, test your levels of anything before you start supplementing them, whether it be thyroid hormones or miracle cures.

Thyroid hormones need to be dosed carefully and adjusted slowly or you end up worse off.

So hope you can gradually feel better. There are a multitude of things to help, so keep your hope. Maybe start from a gentle place listen to yourself and try to get very safe and expert advice from a specialist re the cyst. Do you know if surgery is involved?

Thyroid problems as you say can cause appalling depression which you cannot magic away but with the correct treatment, you will be so very much better.

There is a great book The inflamed Mind which may be an interesting read.

Look after yourself, eat well and rest when you can as this will ease your depression too.

Please do let us know how you are managing.
