Evening everybody and Seaside Susie!

It has just been mentioned on a post that Cirtraline may effect how Levo works.

Can you tell me any more about this? Does ut suppress T4 and do you know how?

😊

Did you mean sertraline smilingjane.

If yes, antidepressants like sertraline 'zoloft'/amitryptiline etc can decrease the amount of levo in the body 'apparently' - 'research studies' I've come across say

Best to google 'does setraline interact with levothyroxine' and allsorts of answers will come up.

I think best to make your own mind up there's so many answers.

GP's are supposedley to closely monitor patients on antidepressants whilst on thyroid meds. X

Ha! Yes ahem we see that happening all the time, dont we? ...

Thanks Thyb 😊

Have you been on sertraline long?

Do you take any anti anxiety meds e.g. diazapam.

There's conflicting research regarding sertraline and levo. Apparently, research says more of a reaction if have Hashimoto's!

I replied below but for 'some reason' it didn't go to you...just below x

No, I did get both your responses, thank you 😊

That's interesting I will research ....

Yes, I take low dose diazipan, to help with sleep. And Cert is only 25 MLS.

Been on it around a year but it dosnt make much diference. Still really low. I think the depression is caused by my inability to do much. I am in bed lor ying down all the time. Really dizzy on standing and no energy.

I have taken diazapam for many years.

I used to take citalopram many years ago which is an SSRI similar to yours but it made me feel worse.

I have some amitryptiline to try but I haven't started them yet - low dose 10mg...Friends tell me they've worked miracles for their gut issues/IBS/ migraines/uplifted there mood and energy etc so I will give them a try...anything which may help.

I have felt the same as you for a very long time...low, no energy, lying down 90% of time, no energy, light headed etc.amitryptiline were prescribed for pain for me (spine fractures), only reason I haven"t started them is because they can cause 'high eyebpressure' which I already have.

One thing I find helps for a short while in Mornings is 'Nature provides' - 2400mcg Bioactive B12 sublingual drops under tongue contains B12 Methylcobalamin + B12 Adenosylcobalamin, plus 1 Igennus Super B Complex, oh plus every 2 days Acerola Powder 1tsp in water for lots of Vit C xx so debilitating feeling like we do

Indeed it can be. sounds like you have had/are having a tough time. I am thinking of you πŸ™

I too am starting some Amitriptaline at the end of this month. I've heard they can help with sleep too imagine .... oh bliss. ... Do you have pressure from your GP to stop the Diazepan?

I think it's a nonsense- there are much more toxic pills out there such asthma SRIs.

I am SI B12 but dont seem to feel much different. And I take the quality B comp as well.

Still I will carry on, as we do.

I hope you start to feel a little better soon

Thinking of you too Jane. My friends tell me they get a great sleep with amytriptilyne and relaxed...

Zero pressure from GP regarding diazapam..But then they put me on it when I was 17 (said I had a nervous stomach....- it was an ovarian cyst that burst 3 years later)!!!!! Idiots, I'll never come off them....tried in the past and side effects were horrendous...not bothered now as that was nearly 50 years ago.

Hope the 'amys' give us some relief.

I might start one tomorrow about 6pm. I was told that's best time to take 1 as they make you sleep....

Hope so plus hope they help IBS as I read hundreds of reviews saying their gastroenterologist put them on anytrypt for gut issues, inflammation and lots more, aches pains etc they'd had for many years and amytryptiline cured them!!!! One user mentioned she was on levo and had to up her levo by 12.5mcg after taking them for a few weeks (only 1).

You take care Jane X

Oh dear, nervous stomach! I think it was a bit like SSRS now, V. was given out freely. too was put on Valium as it was then at 17! Came off when I was 33 to take driving lessons. I was on a high dose and always a bit zonked out. Then went down the SRI route for some of the last 20 odd years

Then Back on Diazepan 2 years ago in attempt to sleep with RLegs. Made little difference. They only gave me a tichy 0.5 per day.

On Oxycodone now, (tiny dose) a it does the trick. However v. little sleep.

Looking forward to hear how you get on with the Amy's.

Best of luck 😚😊

Yes it was called valium for many years and always made by Roche. Of course loads of other pharmaceuticals got on the bandwagon and then called diazapam which was the 1st time I'd ever seen a 'leaflet' for them inside the box as I was Always given them in a brown bottle with screw top lid...had never seen an instruction leaflet back then. They were dished out like smarties:- sore toe, head stomach anything and to loads of pregnant women/young Girls...they should have been sued!!

Mind you, I feel oddly nostalgic for those little brown bottles. Oh yes I remember no leaflets, Ha!

SSRIs of which setraline is one, affect how the gut works and the gut bacteria. Because of this they can affect the absorption of levothyroxine. I was on citalopram for years which is another SSRI.

This may mean that you need a slightly higher dose of levo than before you started on the SSRI.

smilingjane in reply to Lalatoot

That is interesting

Thanks Lalatoot

😊

I take both. I think sertraline does decrease the effectiveness of the levo or vice versa. The sertraline still works a ton better with levo than without it. I'm on 50 mcg of levothyroxine and I may be able to reduce my sertraline soon.

That sounds promising

Good luck going forward
