As Thyrogold don’t provide the t4 and t3 content in their product, because it’s marketed as a food supplement, it’s impossible to compare the two products.

This is a link to the “Stop the Thyroid Madness” page which gives a breakdown of the contents of all of the current natural thyroid brands including Thyrogold and Thyroid S.

Looks like it will have to be “trial and error” method.

Thank you for your reply. At least I can see an approximate now

I have just transitioned to Thyro-Gold and Tammy Lowe was very helpful when I emailed her. She told me that the ratio of T3 to T4 was 1 to 4, and suggested a starter dose of 150mg. You might like to ask the producers of Thyro S to find out more. They just can’t state it on the product, but might be more willing by email.

Can I ask why you decided to transition to Thyrogold?

I was suffering from palpitations and thought it might be because the formulation was not right for me. When I rang Nutri-Meds they would not tell me the ratio of T3 to T4, whereas when I rang Tammy Lowe of Thyrogold, she said that T3 to T4 was 1 to 4, as one would expect. So I switched and am still at the experimental stage, as I also discovered that I was deficient in vitamin B 12.

Hope that helps.

Thank you . I have felt very well on Thyrogold I don’t really want to change, but it’s just too expensive with the cost of postage and customs.

If you feel well with Thyrogold, do not put yourself through hell by trying another product. I find it really difficult to find the right dosage and don't feel well for weeks, so why experiment. Yes it is expensive, but what price health? I order 3 in one go, that cuts down postage and the ridiculous Royal Mail handling fee.

They only allow 3 bottles per order, otherwise we could order 6 and share the customs duty charge.

I think you are right, I am nervous to change, I was unwell for so long and my health under Thyrogold is so much better but the cost is increasingly difficult to keep up. It makes me so cross that we have to pay to just maintain basic health . If the situation changes and we can order 6 bottles the totally up for sharing customs charge

Hi Jill, I am not doing too well on Thyrogold, I think the jury is still out. Just as I changed to Thyrogold, I discovered that I was deficient in Vitamin B 12, which caused my adrenals to go into overdrive and I have been to hell and back. Trembling, racing pulse, high blood pressure, not able to sleep etc. I am on 150 mg of Thyrogold and staying that way.

Keep in touch. Kind regards, Gisela

That sounds awful. I hope it has stopped now. Have you had your adrenals tested?

No, not yet, I didn’t know you could do that. It is settling down very slowly, too slow for my liking, but I called the doctor and knew what she was going to say: your TSH is 2.5, no change required. As long as my TSH is fine, you can die, as far as my doctor is concerned. 😀

I have read that you can get a saliva test, that is apparently better than a blood test. I am planning on getting one. I have not told my doctor I am self medicating! I can’t bare the grilling I would get!! It’s bloody scary managing all this on our own

The sad truth is that many GP’s have not got a clue about the thyroid, well, mine certainly hasn’t. I have rung her several times about my symptoms ( I was over medicated and deficient in Vitamin B 12) and all she said was (which I knew she would):

Your TSH is 2.5 and you are not over medicated. I could not stand it any more and gradually have reduced my dosage to 75 mg and guess what, I feel human again. You can’t just go by the TSH, as we all know, your vitamins have to be optimal and you have to have free T4 etc.

Don’t be afraid of your doctor, it is your body, you know your body best and if you want to do a saliva test, go ahead. I won’t bother with my doctor any more. She has never been any use, so why should I consult her? I spend hours searching on Google, that is how I found out about my vitamin B 12 deficiency.

Kind regards, Gisela

I thought Thyroid-S was out of stock.

My understanding is that bovine thyroid contains T3 and T4 in a different ratio than porcine thyroid. So a straight swap may not be possible.

Also, since Thyrogold is a supplement, it´s not possible to say if its hormone content is standardised (unlike Thyroid-S). Even if it was, it could not be stated since it´s sold as a supplement.

Interestingly enough, I recently stumbled upon a supplement (available both in a bovine and a porcine form) where the hormone content is listed. Not only does it vary between bovine and porcine thyroid, but it is also stated that the hormone content can vary from one dose to another, with T3 in the porcine version ranging from 2.5-4.5 mcg per dose and T4 from 28-40 mcg per dose (bovine slightly higher). If Thyrogold is the same, ie no standardised hormone content, you may have been getting varying doses of T3 and T4 every day. With Thyroid-S, you will be getting a steady supply of both, and this may or may not affect you, depending on how potent Thyrogold is and how much its hormone content fluctuates.
