Welcome to our forum where we can help with thyroid related conditions.

I'm wondering whether you have posted your question on the right forum as labyrinthitis is to do with the inner ear I believe?

I've had both these problems over many years and was told they were to do with my thyroid, but in fact they turned out to be due to trigger points in my left sternocleidomastoid muscle and extremely tight areas of the muscle. Since getting help from a brilliant myofascial therapist, both problems have gone - until the next time I strain my neck in any way. I was given several incorrect diagnoses along the way, plus totally unnecessary meds, and yet it should have been such a simple thing to work out. This may not be the same for you, but it's worth checking.

Not sure if this helps, but my OH had labyrinthitis last year . He couldn't lift his head (off the kitchen floor) without being sick. He had to keep his eyes closed to stop feeling sick. He said the room was 'swirling' whenever he opened them.

It was the first time i've ever called an ambulance.

I think they thought he was drunk when they came in , they insisted on helping him to get up onto a chair , and he promptly threw up on one.

Apparently, that was quite a 'severe ' presentation though !

Hello

Both my sister and I are hypothyroid - my sister has Hashimotos. My sister presented with dizziness & vision issues a year or so ago. The docs thought labrynthitis, so have her the meds for that. They didn’t help. Many blood tests were done, but nothing remarkable. However, she has a Fitbit & was showing a high pulse rate for quite a lot of the time (the lowest would be around 80 bpm, but she was often in the 90’s and above!) We kept a record of these over a 24hr period, plotting every hourly reading & presented to the GP, who took no notice.

Eventually, she just had to ‘put up with it’ until it got better, I’m sorry to say. I would just check your pulse rate, out of interest. Perhaps your GP might be more interested?

We have since changed GP’s, who are a little better!

Best of luck x

I have had a couple of episodes of labrynthitis, not recently though, the doctor gave me exercises to get the fluid in my ears back to where it should be.

You have to sit on the side of the bed, and then lie right down sideways on the bed. First one way for a while and then the other side, and repeat it a few times. My husband had to hang onto my hand in case I fell off the bed because it does make you dizzy doing them. But it does work.

I just wake up with it happening, after being perfectly normal the night before.

But apart from the spinning it has never affected my eyesight.
