Has anyone else experienced this

So... hello again, just looking for some similar experience here or maybe I’m just imagining it.

Has anybody else had there thyroxine increase and they feel good for a little while but then start to go backwards again? And not like to backwards more of a 4 steps forward 1 step back sort of situation?

Wondering if that means I need to keep increasing since I’m on 100 right now and perhaps need to go higher.

Just wondering why feel great for a small amount of time for it to decline.

I don't think that's unusual when finding the dose that works for each person.

As to why it happens, I assume it is related to the feedback loop. My over-simplistic view (assuming thyroid is present, and assuming some T4->T3 conversion is happening) is that you take thyroxine (T4), that results in increased FT4 and subsequently FT3, the increased levels in the blood are detected by the pituitary which then reduces the amount of TSH produced. Your thyroid sees the lower level of TSH and so generates less T4/T3, which changes the FT4/FT3 levels in the blood, thus affecting the amount of TSH the pituitary then creates, and so the loop goes on again. If you stay on the same dose long enough, the feedback loop iterates enough times for things to stabilise, but until that time your levels may oscillate up and down. If you then change your dose (or change something else that affects digestion, hormone production etc), the whole thing starts over again.

Cheers, guess i happens. Keep thinking it’s the right dose until suddenly I’m not feeling great again😂

I think it happens to most people. It just means you need an increase in dose. :)

When you get to the correct dose, do you just continue to feel better then? I find each raise makes me feel better for about 6 weeks and then I have to raise again?

You keep raising slowly until you feel better all the time. It's a very personnel thing, no-one can tell you when you're better, only you can know - contrary to what doctors think!

That is so helpful! THANK YOU! I thought something was wrong with me and the medicine wasn't working correctly b/c it only helped temporarily.

No, it's the usual procedure. :)

HI Simba,

This happens to me everytime I get a dose change. I feel great, plateau, and then a bit worse until my next dose adjustment. It's par for the course. Good wishes your way today.

Don't be misled into thinking that things would be better if you saw an endo!
