Scroll down to where it says :

"PLACES TO ORDER YOUR OWN TESTS"

I'm sure there must be other labs available, but the above link is the only place I know of where links are given.

I order my tests from Ulta Lab Tests. The test is then done at Quest Diagnostics. Ulta runs a lot of sales on tests.

Do you think I can get the Basic Thyroid test ...? It has the T3 uptake and T4 free.

Why may I also need the T3 free?

I think that FT4 and FT3 are the most important tests if you are already taking exogenous thyroid hormones. TSH helps in diagnosis as do antibody tests. I am self medicating with Levothyroxine and liothyronine so I need to check my FT4 and FT3. T3 uptake is a useless test in my opinion. Since you have not been diagnosed you need TSH, FT4, FT3, and antibody tests. At Ulta you may have to order the tests “a la carte.”

When you have these tests you can post the results here and members will help interpret your thyroid health.

You can try to get your doctor to run these tests or get them done yourself and present them to your doctor with a detailed list of symptoms. But if your labs are all in range your doctor will probably not diagnose hypothyroidism.

Good luck.

You need the FT3 test because it's the most important number. T3 is the active hormone - T4 is basically a storage hormone. Low T3 is what defines hypothyroidism. The FT3 test tells you how much T3 is available for use by the body.

My naturalpath doctor has sent me to Lab Corp twice; first time for the comprehensive thyroid panels and nutrient levels. Two weeks ago she sent me back for virus testing.

They have a discount if you pay on the spot, helpful since I don't have insurance. I had to pay for these tests personally.

I'm in Canada but the company I use is available for the US. They have a thyroid panel; everything except rT3. Here is the link if you want to look into it. letsgetchecked.com/us/en/

I get all my tests like this and more from ZRTLabs.com in Portland Oregon - Dr. Zava and team are amazing and truly very knowledgeable. I met him at a conference Tripping Over The Truth a few years back in Baltimore. Cutting edge information on our hormone health. Good people who truly care.

Ulta Lab tests are the lowest price and the offer a basic panel that gets you the minimum metrics mentioned above.

The antibody tests are interesting but my endocrinologist said the treatment is that same, whether or not you have antibodies. If your TSH says your pituitary is screaming for help, that and the free hormone levels are all you need to get started.

If you feel crappy after starting replacement, then reverse T3 is good to check at the same time as FT3

Thanks Rocky... My doc tested the below...would your endocrinologist feel these are sufficient?

TSH

Thyroxin (t4)

T3 uptake

Free T3 is more commonly useful for understanding what’s available to power your body.

The uptake value is a more arcane measure less easily compared to free T4.

Total T4 (first item, presumably) is also less meaningful.

Most clinicians (and people trying to manage their condition) consider the

Free T4 : Free T3 ratio

Or just whether each is above the 50th percentile. And TSH.

Uptake and Total are an apple and a banana in the basket of oranges of interest .
