WOW, had NO idea how expensive T3 actually is. We paid 89 pounds plus delivery (1.49 per tablet - is that normal? The pharmacist says that was cheap and that it would usually be 950 pounds?? (No pound sign on my laptop so I have to write it out in full lol).

The NHS pay around £208 for 28 tablets. This was what I was told in Boots when I collected my prescription.

And yet in mainland Europe .... it's a disgrace, isn't it!

Wow, that’s crazy! How do you find it?

It is what I needed after 4 years of not getting well on levo alone. Had a year's trial from the endo.

I understand Lloyds Pharmacy charges £9 per tablet, so it all adds up, if one needs more than one tablet daily.

This is a link to the British National Formulary which includes tariff prices - which you can check as often as you wish:

bnf.nice.org.uk/medicinal-f...

What make is it? That was a low price.

(Quite often, when posting for an international audience, people type GBP instead of the £ symbol. That is the international abbreviation for pound sterling. Works in many circumstances :-) )

Haha, thanks for the tip re the GBP. Much more succinct.

It’s from Springfield Pharmacy in London and they arrived in a brown bottle without any brand name, so I can’t say. They’re the lactose free tablets.

Is your endocrinologist giving you private prescriptions?

You can order T3 from Germany at much cheaper price...if it’s 20mcg tablets....usually we cut these into 1/4’s - so 5mcg per 1/4

100 tablets per box - so prescription should read

100 x 20mcg liothyronine

31 euro for 100 tablets

That’s brilliant, thank you so much! I’ll try those next time around :-)

Out of interest- why do you cut them into 1/4’s? I was told to just cut in half and have one on waking and one later in the day.

Generally the advice is to very slowly ....don’t start on such a large dose...half tablet is 10mcg

Personally I started on 1/8th tablet (speck of dust) twice day. Then after week increased to 1/4 tablet twice day. Hold at that and retest in 6-8 weeks

Even now, three years on, I can only tolerate 20mcg as split dose into 10mcg 7am, 5mcg at 3pm and 11pm

That’s so strange - in contrast I’ve taken my third half tablet this morning and felt... absolutely nothing. I feel good, no heart palpitations and I haven’t had to have my usual 3 coffees... perhaps a good sign?

When I first started Levo I felt AWFUL. And almost stopped and was advised not to due to my FT3 being so low and no periods etc. However it never felt like it helped at all.

oh yes we all frequently find significant improvements adding T3.

So did you start straight on 10mcg twice daily

Some people are fine doing that, especially if adrenals haven’t been too badly affected

Yes, started with 10mcg immediately because that’s what I was told to do :-) Havint cortisol tested in 6 weeks so will see what that says. Can’t wait to see if this will help with all my other symptoms!! Feeling a little ray of hope :-)
