Anxiety for me was a sign of being undermedicated. what my body lacked in thyroid hormones, it made up for with adrenalin. I was on 100mcg of levo but I am a poor converter. If you could post blood results TSH, Ft3 and Ft4 plus their ranges we may be able to offer suggestions.
I am on 75mcg levo and 20mcg lio. The balance isn't quite right and I think I need to increase my levo slightly. I get both on the NHS so I just can't self medicate if I want to keep the medics onside.
First thing is, do you have any actual blood test results? if not will need to get hold of copies.
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results
UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Have you had thyroid antibodies tested?
Ask GP to test vitamin levels (and antibodies if not been tested)
You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Currently only DIY finger prick test available as option
.
If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3
Improving low vitamin levels can significantly improve symptoms
Hi there Geegee77, for me anxiety meant my T4 and T3 were going to the top end of the range and my T4 or T3 dose was too high. When I'm under I'm sluggish and depressed. I'd follow Slowdragon's advice to get a test to see if you are over or under medicated. Obviously we are also all a bit stressed by the pandemic and lockdown so not sure if this or other stressors are also putting pressure on you right now?
When I've been anxious due to too much medication or other stressors I found that diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation helped a bit till I could sort my meds out.
I’m sorry to hear your anxiety is high. Previous posts have given causation of why you are experiencing anxiety i.e. your medication needs adjustment. I hope you are able to sort this quite quickly. However, I also agree with Mike77 with diaphragmatic breathing and progressive muscle relaxation. I’m a big fan of meditation, there’s plenty of clips on YouTube.
Anxiety was a HUGE issue for me & was linked to me both being undermedicated and my key vitamins not being optimal. Going Gluten free and having Vit D, Folate & Ferritin higher in the range has helped.
For me, who bought every self help book going on anxiety & saw a psychotherapist regularly, the eureka moment came when I joined this forum & realised that anxiety was a symptom of having Hashimotos!
Anxiety symptoms do still appear, but no where near as often or as intense. I now practice mindfulness and like to listen to Mark Williams/ Danny Penman. The CD & book are great (Mindfulness in a frantic World) but the App is also useful & not costly to download. I can follow a meditation anywhere on my phone & guided breathing/ relaxation does lesson panic.
