T3 reading

Hi everybody

I discovered T3 reading taken a year ago. Can you tell me if these are about right? i

Serum T3 level 5.6 - (3.10 - 6.80)

I didn't have T4 taken with the same group of tests. however it is always at the high end of the range. Was taking T4 125 daily at that time. The test also showed high liver enzymes at the time. they have gone down now.

Would you say the T 3 was about right at that time? I had hypo symptoms at the time and still have. The Gp has asked me to reduce to 100 thyroxin because he thinks that I am overeplaced. I haven't mentioned the T3 experiment but will when my private test come back after 6 or so weeks

I cant find the conversion percentage link I was sent at the time.

I am on my third day of a quarter of a 25 mcg twice daily and there is a noticeable difference in my energy level. I am starting to feel as I used to.

I realise that there is a possibility that maybe this is s placebo effect but I doubt it.

So really I want to know where in the range a health T3 should be.

Yes, your T3 level was good. I suspect that your GP might want you to reduce dose as your TSH is probably low or very low. If it is they suspect that we've become hyPERthyroid. We haven't as TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone - is from the pituitary gland and rises if our thyroid gland is struggling to produce hormones.

The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower and FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of the ranges. The aim is that we feel well with relief of symptoms.

yes Shaws, that's my feeling too.

So after my 6 week trial on 12.05 T3 a day I will take the Medichecks or BH tests to my 3ndo and see what he thinks.

Thanks to this site I can understand bt readings myself now + so much else.

I have built up a fair knowledge. Constant learning curve though!

Definitely a learning curve and it would be good if student doctors/endocrinologist joined our group as they'd learn far more (I think) than the doctors.

I personally like my T3 and T4 to be high in range.

If your free T3 and free T4 are not over-range - and they're not - it's difficult to argue you are over-medicated. Simply looking at the TSH reading is wrong, as shaws points out.

So if you feel well on the old dose I'd want to stay on it myself, especially if a small reduction makes you feel worse. When I was on levo-only, the doctor struggled to understand that a tiny reduction in medication could have a HUGE impact on how I felt.

I feel exactly the same and GPs tell me off cos I refuse to take less thyroxine. Take away 25mg and within 10 days |I'm feeling quite unwell. They seem to think it's just a matter of reducing the levo. They have no idea!!

FT3 should be around 75% through the range

Your FT3 result was 67.57% through the range which is a good result but there is room for improvement

Without full, current, thyroid test results it's difficult to comment.

How did you feel on 125mcg thyroxine?

Based on what criteria did your GP conclude that you are over medicated? Old results? Clinical evaluation?

Or is he, like so many medics, clueless about the thyroid and grasping at straws!

Taking a rough guess I suggest you may have been undermedicated!

What made you decide to add T3? Grasping at straws! Understandable.

Until you are certain that you are not responding to T4 mono therapy i.e after thorough testing and optimal medication, personally I would hesitate to add T3

This addition will raise your FT3....again we need results because we don't know where your FT4 sits

I would be reluctant to judge the effect of the T3 after only 3 days...it takes time (about 6 weeks) for the body to adjust to either the addition or a dose increase

We can't consider a conversion problem because.of ...you've guessed...inadequate results.

Apologies if you already know this....just a few points to consider

Please come back with FTT results including vitD , vit B12, folate and ferritin and some of the experienced members will help.

yes your right started the T3 sort of clutching at straws but not, I have done a lot of research, am taking the appropriate vits and mins. I have felt okay on 125 T4 but not recently.

A chronic fatigue and leg pain and brain fog set on over a year ago.

My plan is to take 12.05 mucgs T3 a day and test myself for everything in 6 weeks and the take that the results te 3ndo to see where I stand.

My symptoms of course might not be thyroid related. Something I need to bear in mind. Although I feel that they are.

So, will try the 3 for 6 weeks and if no difference, fair enough I've tried!

If you still had hypo symptoms, then it wasn't right, was it. Optimal is how you feel, not a number on a sheet or results. And, just testing the FT3 by itself doesn't tell you how well you convert T4 to T3. You need them both tested at the same time.
