Early Awakenings

Hope everyone is staying safe right now.

I was wondering if early awakenings are a sign of too much thyroid medication?

I’ve been taking 2.5 Grains of Thyroid-S and recently, can’t seem to sleep more than 5 hours a night.

I remember in the early stages of my disease when I was hyperthyroid from Hashitoxocosis, I would wake at 4am every day and my day would start there.

For me early wakening are signs of too little medication.

Thank you. I’m either over or under. I’ve had an increase in appetite and some weight loss.

Hey there Purpanda

I wake at around 3-4 but that's when I take all my Thyroid S, 1+ 1/2 tablets :

I tend to go to bed and sleep from around 10.30 and easily sleep again until around 7.00am -

Maybe drop a 1/4 tablet and see if it makes any difference ?

Thanks pennyannie. I will give that a try. I don’t see what would make me suddenly require less replacement hormone.

Better levels of vitamins and minerals - and or maybe - a drop in your weight ?

Possibly. I haven’t been able to obtain B vitamins and stopped taking that.

To view things from a different perspective, I have only ever been hypothyroid. And one of the significant early symptoms was waking up after a short sleep and being unable to get back to sleep.

Adequate levothyroxine has completely stopped that happening.

Things improved at each dose increment - and returned if I have been under-dosed.

Interesting. I guess I’ll have to try increasing or decreasing in either direction and see what happens.
