Can anyone reassure me and recommend anywhere I can order a blood test that will check all my daughters thyroid function and antibodies please? She’s bed bound for the last 5 years with fibromyalgia and different mental health diagnoses and can’t cope much longer..I’m severely effected with M.E and I don’t have a thyroid so together we’re really struggling 😢.. I really worried about the finger prick test,is it enough blood to get get a true result? I need to know I have it done RIGHT so I don’t add to both of ours anxiety of ...what ifs !! If that makes sense ?

Thank you as always for you’re help and hope.

I'm very sorry that both you and your daughter are unwell.

Those who have had to draw blood for a private test will respond.

You have to be well hydrated a couple of days before.

I think you're very wise to have a blood test and I will give you some links.

l have read that fibromyalgia and M.E. were named about ten years after the introducion of blood tests for thyroid hormones. Before that we were all diagnosed upon our clinical symptoms and prescribed NDT.

One of TUK's Adviser (now deceased) was an expert in Fibro and M.E. He treated both with liothyronine (T3).

Has your doctor tested both your and daughter's Free T4 and Free T3? Have you had a Full Thyroid Blood Test which consists of:-

TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. TSH alone is insufficient.

If both your Free T3s are low your body cannot function properly as T3 is the Active thyroid hormone needed in our millions of T3 receptor cells. The following video link by an Expert in Fibro is very informative.

The above link is well-worth listening to and is informative as Dr L was an expert an Adviser to TUK before his accidental death.

The fact you are both poorly rings alarm bells for me. Have you been checked for Lyme disease? Don’t know where you live or if you walk out in fields etc.

But anyway Blue Horizon do a good thyroid blood test. I think it’s called thyroid plus 11. They send a little kit in the post. I pay the local surgery to do a private blood draw for me. I send it back and they send results via email super quick! It’s ace but it’s all adding up financially. But it’s the start of empowering yourself so go for it. I’d get a test for yourself too. Thyroid issues may be hereditary but I really don’t know.

Make sure you do the test on empty stomach first thing in the morning before any meds.

I’ve been told I have ME/CFS too and can relate to your existence. I wish you well.

I have had an NHS test at my surgery and a private fingerprick test done within a couple of days, the results have been virtually identical allowing for natural fluctuations.

For the full thyroid/vitamin panel (always advised if vitamins haven't recently been tested):

Medichecks Thyroid Check ULTRAVIT medichecks.com/thyroid-func... You can use code THYROIDUK for a 10% discount on any test not on special offer

or

Blue Horizon Thyroid Check PLUS ELEVEN bluehorizonmedicals.co.uk/t...

Both tests include the full thyroid and vitamin panel. They are basically the same test but with the following small differences:

For the fingerprick test:

Blue Horizon requires 1 x microtainer of blood (0.8ml), Medichecks requires 2 x microtainers (total 1.6ml)

Blue Horizon includes Total T4 (can be useful but not essential). Medichecks doesn't include this test.

B12 - Blue Horizon does Total B12 which measures bound and unbound (active) B12 but doesn't give a separate result for each. Medichecks does Active B12.

Total B12 shows the total B12 in the blood. Active B12 shows what's available to be taken up by the cells. You can have a reasonable level of Total B12 but a poor level of Active B12. (Personally, I would go for the Active B12 test.)

If you only want the full thyroid panel then go for

Medichecks Thyroid Check Plus medichecks.com/products/thy...

or

Blue Horizon Thyroid Check Plus Six bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk...

If you remain unsure about the fingerprick test then both companies can arrange home phlebotomy at extra cost but if you go for that then remember to book as early as possible in the morning, 9am would be ideal.

I've had the Medicheck blood draw at home via their outsourced private nurse and they were here promptly at 9am. All went smoothly and they posted the tests off for me.
