Wockhardt UK Ltd is recalling specific batches of Levothyroxine 100micrograms/5ml Oral Solution from pharmacies and wholesalers as a precautionary measure due to notification of the impurity liothyronine exceeding the specification limit.

If you have any of this medication discuss a replacement with your pharmacist or GP.

It would have been good to know how much liothyronine (T3) has been found in this product. As it stands, we have no idea if it is 1% over the limit - or several times the limit. Indeed, we do not even know what that limit is. For tablets, it is 1% of the claimed potency. E.g. 1 microgram in a 100 microgram levothyroxine tablet.

Haha yes! But they're not going to tell us that in case we all go rushing to the docs to get some prescribed before it disappears off the shelf :D

That's what I was thinking! I bought some Metavive which of course can't state if it contains any, or how much in a given batch either. But if I can't get another increase of Levo next time, or it doesn't help, I will talk to the doctor about trying it. Thankfully I've finally found a good one, though he will no doubt want to check other things first (iron panel? Adrenals?...)

You took the words right out of my mouth! ‘Snatch it off the shelves, the b*st*rds might start feeling well and then they’ll really be dangerous!’ Lol. 🤸🏿‍♀️🥛

Actually, I think they have made a mistake. I called them and was told that levothyroxine degredates into liothyronine. I'm waiting for them to investigate the matter.

Yes - levothyroxine can degrade to T3, just like conversion!

We do not know, and cannot tell, whether this is liothyronine impurity from manufacture of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, or degradation during manufacture, during storage and distribution, or simply over time before expiry date. :-)

It is quite clear that levothyroxine can, and does, degrade to T3. It does not have T3 as an intentional ingredient:
