Best cortisol tests?

There seem to be a few different types and money is an issue. (also I'm not planning to see my doctor about it as I'm trying to limit that ritual humiliation). I want to test, partly because I'm slowly ruling things out (and in) and also because I've noticed that if something upsets me (like seeing a cat nearly run over yesterday) the initial physical stress reaction is not followed be calm any more but by shaking and complete depletion of energy.

24 hour saliva test is said to be the best that tests both cortisol plus DHEA. Avoid any test that only tests cortisol alone.
