I have just come from GP appointment to have bloods checked. For years I have had to fight to have fT3 included. This time I was told when they put the label on for a thyroid test the lab automatically includes fT3. Progress at last.

If you are willing, would you let us know whereabouts you are? The interesting bit is probably the laboratory but could be the area/region/board area.
I live in central Scotland. Forth Valley Health Board.
That's somewaht annoying - I have been unable to find anything useful about the laboratory and their protocols!
From 2012, Total T3 was an "if indicated" test - but that is now a long time ago!
TFT thyroid function tests
sst 3
TSH; FT4, TT3 if indicated

When I pick up my results and confirm they have indeed included fT3 I will ask a few more questions and report back.
Should have realised it was too good to be true. Had a phone call from GP today giving me my blood results and yes fT3 was included but when I asked if there had been a change in policy the answer was no. TSH only and if it is below range lab will do fT4.
I am privileged to have a label to include fT3 as a request from my endo . Sorry for raising hopes that we were making progress.
