Hi! Happy weekend to everyone!!
Does anyone else here have both Graves and Hashimoto’s??
🤞 😊
I have wondered if I have both but haven't bothered to find out because I know I will have to self treat if it is both because my GP is not interested in helping me because it is all about the TSH and NHS guidelines.
Hi. My Endo repeatedly diagnosed Graves, but antibodies now show Hashimotos. I’ve been advised on here that my initial hyper symptoms may have been a Hashi flare. However my Endo still believes that I’ve had both (but there are no antibody tests to prove this). To confuse the waters further I have thyroid eye disease (TED) which is normally (but not exclusively) linked to Graves.
I do feel better on Levothyroxine, being GFree & having vitamins more optimal. How are you feeling?
I am in my second remission and feel ok except from this cough from a bug I am getting over. I do know I will either go underactive or overactive in the future but at least now I do know what I can do. When I was first diagnosed I was left to get on with it by my Endocrinologist ... I do sometimes wonder why some have actually decided to specialialize in thyroid disease when they don't seem to act in the patients best interest. It is mainly I know because they are tied by NHS guidelines and the TSH but they actually went to uni and studied it! I feel like I know more about this disease after researching it by reading as much about it as I could and joining Elaine Moore's site in the US ... she helped with my diagnosis when I had been suffering for over 2 years.
Have you actually had Graves' disease confirmed by high TSI or TRab antibodies tested?
EDS and autoimmune thyroid disease may be linked

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?
Have you had vitamin levels tested
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
Many people need to supplement to maintain optimal vitamin levels
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first
Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet
(If test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, maximum 6 weeks wait officially)
Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse
