I am no expert on iodine but I do know that when deficient supplementing should be with done with the guidance of an experienced practioner, and there are cofactors/companion nutrients needed when taking iodine. Are you also taking any cofactors? If not then I'd say your private doctor is not experienced in iodine supplementation.
As for the amount you have been told to take, again I'm no expert but I was consulting with a practioner a few years ago who gave me a multi supplement which contained 150mcg iodine. I pointed out that my iodine had been tested and I wasn't deficient, I was actually mid-range at 150 (100-199). She said it was fine as it was a small amount. Well that small amount actually raised my level from 150 to 250 (100-199) within just a few months.
Don’t understand what do factors are,,.esplain please ?
Companion nutrients. Like when taking D3 for low Vit D levels, we need to take magnesium (helps the body convert D3 into it's usable form) and Vit K2-MK7 (which directs the extra uptake of calcium from food [which D3 aids] to bones and teeth and away from arteries and soft tissues). So there are companion nutrients when taking iodine. Have a read of this article:
If you are deficient, you need it. Iodoral is lugols iodine in tablet form. I have taken in the past (I used to take 1/2 tablet a day) and I didn't die, get hashis, or get more hypo or hyper. So try it, but be very aware of how you feel. You might find liquid Lugols better as it is easier to adjust dose in drops (but it tastes disgusting), so worth talking to doctor. Usually, you take selenium along with iodine.
I've taken the 12.5mg tablets in the past and they really helped. If you're low on iodine you need it. You'll notice when you reach sufficiency because you'll get hypo symptoms, so just stop taking it then.
The confusion with iodine comes from it being used to treat both hypo and hyper. You need sufficient to resolve your issues.
Sufficiency is what you're aiming at and when you reach it you'll notice many benefits - picking up fewer infections and bugs, better skin etc.
