I am sitting here about to cry. I just feel like every week it’s something. I have Hashi’s and a high TSH as of a few weeks ago (5.06, range .5-4.5), but don’t have T3 readings. Anyway, because of the TSH alone my endo upped my levo from 120 mcg daily to 137. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been on the higher dose for over 2 weeks and recently have been more sweaty and then this weekend I was freaking out because my skin felt very warm- hot even. But I had no fever (I compulsively checked over a dozen times each day). On top of that I have hives that are being controlled by antihistamines at the moment (never had them before). Every time I get a symptom I look for reassurance that it could be thyroid related and I’m not dying of some horrible disease. This is likely because I didn’t have many health problems, aside from anxiety, until my Hashi’s diagnosis a year ago when I started experiencing a ton of symptoms out of nowhere- some traditionally hypo symptoms and some not.
I messaged my endo to see if she thought maybe the medication made me feel hot, or if I could be having hyper symptoms. She just said- “Possibly but likely not. You can have your bloodwork rechecked next week.” I guess I just feel like my doctors don’t really care or have no solution to my problems and never seem to think Hashi’s has to do with anything (but again- no alternative ideas). And then in turn I feel like I have to solve everything, I have to make sense of everything because no one else will. I think I need to shop for a new endo at the beginning of the year. Also, did anyone else panic every time they had a new symptom? And when, after what period of time, did you stop panicking?

It is possible to get hives if your vitamin D is low, have you had a test? The summer has been quite dreadful and it is possible you have not had much sunshine
My vitamin D was low and so I began supplementing. It is now within range but still low. I actually have doubled my supplement dose for over a month and a half so I don’t think it’s too little at this point.
I was hot for years and years and never knew why. Then I started testing my blood sugar and found that being hot equates ( for me) to having high blood sugar levels. Further down the line I discovered that the stuff that raises my blood sugar is starchy carbs, particularly rice. Further research showed that this can be down to low gut flora..... all common stuff with hypothyroidism....
Quite handy to know for me, I was out on the sea just a couple of days ago (paddle boarding) and had a chocolate bar before I went... Instant high blood sugar... I came out of the sea with toasty warm hands and feet!
This might sound like a stupid question but is your body temp actually any higher when this happens?
I get hot (funnily enough it might correlate with me having my porridge!) but whenever I’ve checked my temperature, it’s normal. Well, no warmer than when I feel fine.
I use a contour plus meter because the strips that come with it don't have an expiry date..... I used to use a meter with a cartridge system but the cartridge used to expire before I had finished using it up and it worked out quite expensive in the end.
It gets worse but I didn't want to confuse you..... Turns out that my low folate is caused by having a defective gene (MTHFR c677T) so I cannot use folic acid. Low folate causes insulin resistance and low insulin output. Since upping my folate by using methyl folate, I have lost 3 stones without trying hard, despite not having lost any weight over the past 20 years.... and my hba 1c has dropped 5 points..... Yeeee Ha!!!!
It’s ok, I have a scientific mind (when it’s working 🤪) so you’re not confusing me!
This is also interesting! I struggle with resisting sugar, something I never used to and which I know is probably an element of insulin resistance. I was within range (that old one) when I was last tested. I don’t know if I have the ‘mother f*cker’ defect as I call it 😂 and I don’t have any problems with folic acid that I’m aware of but it makes sense that my levels are maybe still a bit low. I haven’t checked for a wee while.
I really struggled to get ferritin up - don’t suppose you’ve got any inspiration there?? 😂
Your thoughts today are exactly how I felt before my thyroid and vitamin levels became more optimum. My bookshelves have so much literature on anxiety (I even have one called ‘Panicing about panic!) It’s only now looking back that I can see all my symptoms were Hashi related. I thought....and GP/ psychotherapist had me believe....it was my anxiety causing them. Yes, anxiety makes symptoms worse, but the symptoms are real and they are thyroid related.
It was only listening to others on this forum who helped me understand all the symptoms thyroid problems can throw at us.
Keep trying to do things you enjoy everyday. Perhaps try meditation if it helps you relax. Most of all, have in your mind that the symptoms will pass when your thyroid is better taken care of with medication & vitamins.
No- how interesting. So you think there might be an iron connection? I had bloodwork done about 2 weeks ago and they said it was normal but I don’t have the exact ranges yet. I asked specifically about anemia and she said no indication.
Hello, thyroidmom84, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 50 yrs old, I'm now 69, when I was first put on levothyroxine, I told the Dr, please start me on a low dosage cuz I react to meds, he said no I'm starting you at 120 mcg cuz you are real bad, I took it for about almost 3 weeks, when I started having fainty feelings, there were times I had block outs that would last for seconds, then I started collapsing, winded up in the ER, then I woke up one morning I couldn't feel all my left side so I fell , turned out I had a mini stroke. Finally the Dr takes me off the120mcg and starts me on half of 25mcg, big difference , as the months went by he slowly is getting me to a higher dose, ,25mcg one day the other 50mcg, I started getting palpitations with shortness of breath, nausea, diarrhea, I felt I was dieing, I was like off and on the meds since I was 50 yrs of age, now at 69, I slowly weaned myself off this thyro meds , I think I'm allergic to them, I've also tried the ones from the pig glands I cant tolerate them, I get a rash, on my face, and shortness of breath, .. now I'm trying a more natural approach, I seem to be doing ok, I'm taking a good Bvitamins, some thyroid supplement, I take a hypothyroidism diet, I do accupressure points, I go to a accupuncturist, at least I don't feel like I'm dieing, I'm doing great. The Drs can't go by the book with me cause they will kill me.
Thank you for the reply. According to my blood tests, I was over medicated! My endo first told me this wasn’t possible with gradual increases but the blood tests proved her wrong. My dosage was dropped and most of the symptoms have gone away thank god!
