Hi - I have Hashimoto and hypertension. I tried medication in the form of Ramipril and it made me feel really sick. Any ideas or recommendation for a drug that maybe better suited. Can't dodge this for too much longer.

You posted 9 months ago and received good advice from greygoose and SlowDragon Sadly you didn't respond. Maybe your blood pressure is linked to poor T3 levels or low nutrients. Could that be why the drug is not suiting ... ? Sorry I do not have advice about an alternative drug ...

I changed from Ramipril to Candesarten as I got the cough which is a side effect of Ramipril .

It’s the Levothyroxine that makes me feel a bit sick 🙁

As you have Hashimoto's it's extremely important to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 as well as FULL thyroid testing -TSH, FT3 and FT4

What vitamin supplements do you currently take?

How much Levothyroxine and when were levels last tested?

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

If your hypertension is caused by hypo, then it won't respond to any drug. And, hypertension can be a hypo symptom. So, what are your latest labs? Results AND ranges, please. And, what are you taking now? :)

What's your diet like, do you regularly eat carbs? I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 7 years ago and was put on Ramipril (diagnosed with CKD at the same time). Soon after that I started reducing the amount of carbs in my diet, lost 21lbs in weight and my blood pressure returned to normal and has stayed down since then.

dietdoctor.com/blood-pressure

"Raised insulin levels seem to lead to the accumulation of fluid and salt in the body. This increases blood pressure. In addition, high levels of insulin can thicken the tissue around blood vessels (the so-called smooth muscle), which also may contribute to an elevated blood pressure.

Eating less carbohyrate has repeatedly been shown to decrease insulin levels and also blood pressure. Perhaps this is because a low-carbohydrate diet also tends to discourage the body from accumulating fluids, and increases the elimination of salt via urine."

Excellent advice, but......I have a very low carb diet now, I walk for 40 mins a day. I have lost the fluid in my legs and the weight has reduced. However, my bp is still too high. I have a lot of stress and try to offset it with yin yoga, but still high. Going to a cardiovascular doctor next week, so might have some more info.

Ramipril stopped working for me after some years and I now take Amlodipine (as well as the Ramipril) and have never had any noticeable side effects from either.

I have now been given Amlodipine and have a sore stomach which feels like acid. So fed up,
