Dose increase ?

So.. my TSH levels yesterday morning are now 2.5 (0.27-4.5)and T4 is 17.5 (11-22) got told it was all “normal” and to stay on the same dose... I feel ok apart from I’m tired in the afternoon and I’m absolutely frozen all the time.. I’m on 150mcg of levothyroxine should I maybe push for a slight dose increase?

Welcome to the forum

Do you have autoimmune thyroid disease, or on Levothyroxine after Thyroidectomy or RAI?

Just testing TSH and FT4 is completely inadequate

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels if not been done

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

FT4 only 54% through range

Sorry.. I’ve got Hashimoto’s my b12 and Vit D is in range and I’m on folate supplements as it was low! I got a medichecks bloods done in August will add this.. I’ve responded well to 150mcg of levothyroxine but my T4 levels could do with being higher.. is it worth asking for a dose increase? I was told normal and to continue and see in 6 months!

You have two choices:

1) Type them into your post

2) Add a photo to the opening post of a thread (one photo is all you can add). You will need to edit your opening post:

You will find the "Add a Photo" facility if you scroll down to below the message box, upload your picture then click "Submit".

Please make sure that you don't show any of your personal details such as name and date of birth.

Once we are on medication we usually try to have tsh at 1 or below as this is where most feel best. You could mange an increase of levo.
