Hi everyone, newbie here, I have been diagnosed with toxic thyroiditis. I have no confidence in my GP as they missed it. I had to use what little savings I had to go private only to find out I needed a biopsy to check for cancer as I had 6 nodes on my thyroid. I now go to an nhs hospital only to a thyroid clinic. I have had a thyroid uptake test done in June which left a large round mark on my neck has anyone else been left with this? No one told me this may happen. Now I have had a letter from the consultant saying I have “hot nodgles” and they want to zap them. I have looked up the pros and cons and I’m none the wiser. I would love not to have bouts of the runs, trembles in my hands, heart palpitations and anxiety but on the other hand I don’t want problems with my eyes. From what I can gather I could go from hyper to hypo.

Any info would be great fully received folks

You are suffering from hyperthyroidism. The nodules on your thyroid are creating too much thyroid hormone. You should have been started on a thyroid suppressant like Carbimazole by now and maybe a beta blocker. I've had the thyroid uptake test, but it left no marks. What you're describing should be checked by a doctor. I'd call the thyroid clinic. Maybe you can go to the Emergency Room? (I'm American) Please tell me you're on medication.

Unless you test positive for Graves antibodies, you don't need to worry about your eyes.

You should have TSH, free T3 and free T4 tested along with thyroid antibodies. Your vitamins should be checked.

You need to have those nodules biopsied. I too have what's known as a toxic multinodal goiter. I have 2 nodules on the right hand side of my thyroid. The biopsy is done by fine needle aspiration. The worst part is the shot that they use to numb you and it's not bad. They'll take a sample from each nodule using a very thin needle and send them to a lab for analysis. I left with a dot band aid. If positive for cancer (most nodules are not), they'll have to remove your thyroid.

You'll be pushed to take RAI (radioactive iodine) because they think that it's easier to treat hypothyroidism. I'm back in normal range using only medications.

There's a lot to know about this disease. You'll find that most GPs, and some Endocrinoligists, don't know much about the thyroid. Read this forum and you'll learn. I hope that I helped a little

I don't know about the eye thing. I didn't test positive for hypo or hyperthyroidism and I experienced my eye popping out of its socket along with swallowing issues and severe panic attacks and weight gain/lose eventually I was diagnoised with thyroid cancer. Maybe I'm a weird duck!

I have a multi-nodular goitre and haven't had it zapped and will never have it removed unless it becomes cancerous - very slim chance this will happen because I have had it for years (read my profile) Usually when you are over active it can be treated with tablets (PTU) which I have taken in the past and then you might go into remission because I did. I have also been under active for a while and then treated myself with NDT. At the moment I am in remission so I am taking no medication. I wouldn't let them *Zap* my thyroid but it is up to you - what I do know is that other members on this site and other sites all over the world have struggled to get adequate treatment from their Doctors when they have had their thyroid removed - not all but the majority of people who post on sites like these are struggling with their thyroid. Greygoose has a lot of knowledge about this so hopefully when she gets up she will advise you further.

I had hot nodules and almost had a heart attack since it was not diagnosed for a long time. I had RAI - this was in 2005. Rhwn I dwll inro eNFW ns nor unril 2016 when I started to have different symptoms and again went undiagnosed until I went into thyroid storm. Zapped again, only this time with double dose and now am on Levoxyl as dead thyroid. However, I learned that you can still get cancer of the thyroid even if it is dead. Curious, any ne have any info/comments regarding this?
