I haven't seen one Endocrinologist that has known how the thyroid functions- there are some out there but they are hard to find. The only Doctor that has ever helped me is Dr Gordon Skinner and he is now dead unfortunately.

Fine Man - I still to this day laugh at things he said - world is a far worse place without him.

I found a good endo but she went off and had a baby -selfish lol. The locum was shocking. After one visit I went home and contacted a private hospital - I had an endo recommendation from this group. I’ve seen him once and feel amazing. NHS don’t provide adequate care for thyroid patients. If you’re fed up, ask for the group here to recommend a private endo in your area - private message only. NHS only offer synthetic t4 / t3 which only works for 50/60%. There are other options. NHS is slow and doesn’t test adequately either. Go private!

Thank you ... I tried private a few years ago and that was pretty bad also..I am very low on funds as I have not worked in over a year as I have RA and OA in most of my joints. The reason I was sent to see this endo was for what feels like a band tightening around my neck the feeling is now travelling up the right side of my face like a burning tingling that makes me want to put a hot iron on it to make it stop... she told me it’s not my thyroid (fair enough) but reduce your tablets.. why? In case I get a heart attack or osteoporosis (which I have anyway) I asked about Vit B 12 makes no difference if you are with in ranges ... I left at that point. Barely out of school and not a clue ...wait till the stress kicks in and you’ll be joining the rest of us!!!

That sounds more like you need to see a neurologist, rather than an endo.

I agree with you and was actually surprised my doctor referred me to see an endo, but he is trying to help by elimination, however at this point I am not even going back to a doctor... I've had enough of them all, I have been all around the hospital and my mental health cannot take any more of it... I need a break and whatever it is will either get better or become blazingly obvious...

That's one way of handling the situation. :)

Ironic thing for me is NHS endo was not willing to prescribe T3. Said could see him privately where he would. Have seen him once, and put me on NDT instead, as cheaper than British T3 (was not willing to monitor if I sourced my own T3, of which I have loads, by the way!). Jury is still out. He's meant to be one of the good ones, in the TUK list, but I'm not too sure. I'm still tempted by the self-med route...

Sadly can't afford it.

They, like all doctors, seem to get paid for just existing and not actually deliberately killing anyone or having sex with their patients (being caught, anyway). Doesn't matter whether their patient get better or not.

A private endo will cost about £150 per 15min consultation.

Not a conspiracy theorist but starting to think we're all just extra bodies for experimentation. I'm becoming more convinced that a majority of us are merely signed up to one methodology or another and monitored with results sent back to pharmacology companies for use in either inventing or modifying a variety of drugs.

Like BMI with regards to weight, Thyroid tests are basically FLAWED and definitely need to be reviewed. Why they've not done so is simply strange.

Might be onto something there 😉

It does make you wonder as things seem to be going back

Wards . Especially when you have to describe how the loop works to the dr. BMI has been discredited time after time but it's still used. I can't understand why we as a group are not being proactive like other groups. Asking for certain standards, full range of testing , drs who can demonstrate they understand all aspects of the condition and not just use trial and error about dose. If you gain weight the dose isn't right but they laugh and tell you to diet. So I got evidence from a dietician. The onus is always On us to get the right tests and right medication.
