Increasing T3

So following my last post, I reduced my T3 by 5mcg/day and increased my levo by 12.5

However, three days in I felt awful. Really weird, odd head fuzziness, low hr, pulsatile tinnitus and my aching pelvis and frozen shoulder are back with a vengeance.... who knew? I stuck at the same dose for a couple of days but kept getting the weird spells.

So now I’ve returned to 30mcg/day and dropped my levo back again. My question is this:

Can I continue to increase to remove symptoms if my T3 is top of range? People say to go by symptoms, not bloods but is this ok, really?

Also, how do I go about accessing the T3? My go prescribes at the moment on the endos advice but he’s already asking questions because I going through three times as much as is on the original script! I could go back to the endo but how do I convince her when I’ve increased b6 myself up to now and my last bloods were top of range?

Every time i increase, I feel fab and symptom free for about a month, then slowly they return. Can I just keep increasing? And what about my levo? It’s now bottom of range - do I try to increase a bit? Do I ignore it? How do I know thinking about it, that it wasn’t the increase in levo that caused the increase in symptoms? (My sensible head tells me a week isn’t long enough to cause this but still...)

Sorry, pouring out thoughts here as they pop into my head. A few weeks back I thought I knew where I was going, now I’m thoroughly confused 🙈

Blood tests were introduced along with levothyroxine alone, i.e. T4.

If we add or take another thyroid hormone then the blood results of the tests cannot correlate i.e. T3 only, NDT, or T3/T4. The results we are looking for is relief of all our clinical symptoms and connot be judged by a blood result but upon symptoms.

We should concentrate upon is 'relief of clinical symptoms'. This is done by very small increases every couple of weeks. Read the following 'Safely Getting Well with Thyroid Hormones' which might be helpful.

As you are aware, T4 has a long half-life and T3 a shorter one.

Not what you're looking for?
