Too much levothyroxine taken
Nancy
Don't worry, some people have to take a week's worth of Levo in one dose under medical supervision, so just don't take any for the next few days then resume your 100mcg daily.
I didn't know it was so difficult to overdose on Levo! Of course if you did it long term that would be different
I would phone my surgery for advice.
Do you feel over-medicated and have a high heart rate? If you do, the most likely treatment would be propranolol - a beta blocker. Mostly not required for modest excess ingestion.
Not advocating anything other than being careful, but levothyroxine is one of the safest medicines there is. SeasideSusie is right.
Further, during testing of levothyroxine, it is usual to give healthy volunteers a 600 microgram dose.
Don' arrange for any thyroid blood tests for, perhaps, six weeks. Simply because the results could be misleading until everything has stabilised which takes a while.
The half-life of that medication is one week,. Therefore by the 8th day after taking that dose, the effect should be largely gone. In the interim because it will have increased your metabolism and heart rate, I would think you should avoid caffeine, and not do anything too strenuous,. However, I think you should ask your doctor about it.
