I’m due to see my Endo on Sunday morning, I’ve been taking my own sourced T3 and feeling really well . When I first saw him and asked about T3 on the nhs , he said let’s see if it helps , so can I now ask for a T3 trial ? Or just ask for a private script ? What do you think my chances are (I’m in the north east )

Endo appointment T3 trial
Good luck with this
I had the same conversation with my Endo on numerous trial occasions.
The out come from the consultations was that I continued self sourcing as the NHS couldn’t fund this.
I live in the North West,
I have discharged myself from these unnecessary visits

so can I now ask for a T3 trial ?
Of course you can ask.
Or just ask for a private script ?
You can ask for that as well.

That depends. Has your trial worked well enough to convince the endo you need it - you'll need new test results to show how it has affected your hormone levels as well as explaining how it has made you feel.
Are you seeing this endo privately?
Does he also work for the NHS?
If he works for the NHS ask him if he will see you as an NHS patient and recommend/prescribe T3 on the NHS.
If he refuses ask why.
If he can't due to local guidelines, ask if he will give you a private prescription, in which case it can be sent to Germany where 100 tablets cost about 31 euros.
If you have a private prescription and want to send it to Germany it has to be written correctly:
Liothyronine 20mcg 100 tablets
Details of where to send your private prescription on ThyroidUK's main website:

I’m seeing him on the nhs after paying to see him privately he agreed to see me in his Nhs clinic , my last bloods hadn’t improved my T3 but T4 had gone right down, but don’t think I’d been on it long enough , I’m definitely feeling better , both physically and mentally. He will do my bloods on Sunday and normally let’s me know in a couple of days what my reading are .

We always recommend getting full Thyroid and vitamin testing privately BEFORE consultation
A) you can control timing of test and medication
B) important to test vitamins too
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test
Is this how you do your tests?
If FT4 has dropped significantly you may need increase in Levothyroxine, especially if Levothyroxine was reduced when T3 was added
Look at getting DIO2 gene test...if you test positive this can help get T3 on NHS
