I damaged my left finger while playing basketball at the beginning of June. At first it was extremely swollen however as of now the swelling is completely gone but when I bend my finger I feel slight to high pain depending on how hard I bend the finger. I got an X-ray and my result said everything is fine such as the bones and the tissues but I don’t believe that can someone please to tell me what to do to make the pain go away when I bend the finger I feel this might be a permanent issue and I’m worried.

difficult as all that is done with even broken fingers is to strap to keep it very straight You could try this yourself to see if it allows the place to heal better. You may have some tissue from where the healing has occurred that is pressing on a nerve when you move so if you strapped it it might help it to re-align properly. Perhaps ask your surgery to do it for you?

More than likely you have damaged a nerve. It takes ages for a nerve to heal, and sometimes they dont, I am afraid. I would go to see your GP who can do some tests to see if it damaged, and give you advice on what is the best thing to do. Unfortunately sometimes it is just give it time.

X-ray will only show bony injuries. There is a structure over the joint called the volatile plate, it’s sort tissue, it can get damaged when you have a finger injury & block the joint. Equally swelling of the joint capsule can affect movement and cause pain.

A hand specialist physio should be able to help / advise; a good musculoskeletal ultra sonographer should be able to see any damage or an MRI if not settling.

Fingers take longer than you think to get better as have a lot of nerve endings.
