There's a lot more to "thyroid" than being hot.

Signs and symptoms of overactive thyroid here:

thyroiduk.org/tuk/about_the...

The first 3 listed are

Increased sweating

Sensation of warmth

Oversensitivity to heat

Check out the others. If you think this could apply to you, print the list, mark off the symptoms and ask your GP for full thyroid tests:

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid antibodies (but these may not be done):

TSI and TRAb are the ones for overactive

TPO and Tg are the ones for underactive

But could it be hormonal - as in menopause?

If your thyroid is over active it may well be. Before I had mine removed I was hot all the time, now I'm cold all the time you can't win

Interesting this because listed on Hypothyroidism is Heat/Cold intolerance as well. There seems to be other symptoms that are listed on both.

There are lots of them! Many symptoms can be both hypo and hyper. :)

Symptoms overlap a lot but the causes are different. I read a paper on here that said you can get blepharitis ("Dry eyes") if you are hypo as well as hyper (I have it) but the cause and exact symptoms are different. The hyperthyroid kind often causes protruding eyes and is more well known.

I suffer from under-active Thyroid and I'm too hot all the time, drives my husband and work colleagues crazy as i always want windows open, air con on etc lol

I wonder if it's because the adrenals try to make up for the lack and overdo it. I've had hot flushes for years, but only fairly recently been hypothyroid. But the flushes feel different and I seem to sweat more.

Yet some people here have said that hypos don't sweat!

All very complicated

Totally agree, I work with my mother in law (which is bad enough lol) and she had her thyroid removed years ago due to cancer, and is on 150 levo. But she's always freezing in the office and I'm on 20mg T3 and 150 Levo and I'm always boiling!

Another theory is that the liver is the source Of hot flashes - which again can be a source of the hypothyroidism / Hashimotos according to Isabella Wentz and many others. We hear terms like fatty liver disease and cleansing the liver and so forth and so on.

My own experience is that the hot flashes do go away when I take steps in eating right (more raw veggies and less sausages, preserved meats etc.) and cleanse the liver. My favorite gentle cleanse is warm lemon water - about a quart - 1st thing in the morning. Of course organic lemon juice if you can find it.
