I am currently on 1.5g NP Thyroid, natural iron tablets and si b12 every other day. My brain fog has lifted now that Ive increased to 1.5g but I have the following symptoms.
My left hand and foot is numb, very swollen buttocks. legs and face, palor, dark rings under my eyes and fatigued.
I understand that my adrenals should be treated first which I did but no longer supplement for them, My question is should I restart and if so how? And when I do restart should I be on them for life?
Can anyone recommend anyone to help me I live near Brighton. willing to travel.
Thank you

Hi Csavery8753, Are you confident that 1.5 grain is your optimal dose?
If you'd like to raise you've got two options depending on how cautious you want to be:
1) The old fashioned way of raising NDT is to go up to 2 grain or more fairly quickly without having a blood test. As long as its been 3 weeks or more since you last raised, you could give yourself an increase of a quarter grain.
2) If you want to be more cautious, you could have a blood test first. Make sure you hold on the current dose for 6 weeks, and after that get a full thyroid panel test: TSH, freeT4, freeT3. If possible test vitamins, too: Ferritin, folate, vit D, vit B12. If you're in the UK you can go to Medichecks or Bluehorizon.
Well, to state the obvious, adrenals need only be treated first, if there is a problem to be treated. What problem did you discover, that necessitated treatment previously? If you suspect you may have a return of that adrenal problem, or a new problem, I'd suggested first having a 24 hr saliva cortisol/DHEA test before supplementing with adaptogens or whatever might be required, to know exactly what, if anything, is going on rather than simply and wrongly assuming you have a problem now and/or supplementing regardless.
1.5 grains of NDT is only a low dose, and it is common when not yet at an optimal dose to feel good for a while after the previous increase, before beginning to be symptomatic again. It generally just means that a further increase is required.
