Hypothyroidism and kidney function

My egfr is 53 which isn’t good. In the US, for my age, it should be above 60. I’m wondering if my unstable thyroid is having an impact. Thanks!

what are your latest lab results on thyroid and what med and how much do you take? what is your tsh free t3 free t4 levels and ranges on lab test. always best to get copies of al lab results because many times drs undermedicate or over look low normal. what other problems do you have and what is your age

My last draw was T4 2.39 (.80-1.80 range)

TSH 2.070 (.4-4.5 range)

T3 2.8 (2.3-4.2 range)

I went back over all my gfr results and everyone that is in the 50s correlates with my thyroid being unstable. My thyroid results are a little unusual. I think my doctor is trying but not sure what to do. I'm on 50mcg of lev and 5mcg of T3. I've been ill since January. I really don't know if I'm better or worse. It all seems like a trial and error approach. I'm asking for additional antibody testing and vitamin testing on friday. Thanks!

it would be my suggestion,to take a thyroid support vitamin supplement to make sure your thyroid is getting what it needs naturally to help convert t4 to t3 and function properly.Also....when did you take your thyroid meds, Never take the day of test -wait until afterwards especially since you take t3 meds or it can distort test ...yet....looking at this test...you are under medicated with your tsh at 2.07 and free t3 at 2.8 ( those are free t3 and free t3 labs right?) if you took the meds the morning of test, then you are more so undermedicated.

ALSO if you are 50 , you could be having several hormone changes that will make you feel terrible. Make sure your dr has tested your iron ferritin, d3, and b12....if you are low in d3 vitamin or b12 or not optimal you will feel terrible. I take d3 5000mg with k2 in it to protect arteries 5 days a week and i take a b complex by pure encapsulations and their thyroid support supplement.

Taking a t3 med with t4, your tsh should be no higher than 1 and usually it will test much lower, your free t3 should be at the top end of normal 1/3 since that is what your body actually uses.

I found i had to go to a bioidentical hormone dr to get adequate treatment of my thyroid since many drs dont test everything they need to ,neither do they know how to read test and treat. Many are unaware that the thyroid test was created for synthroid t4 only meds therefore when using t3, the tsh will always read differently than if you are t4 that has to be converted so they end up undertreating with medication reading it like you are t4 only meds. Since the thyroid controls everything in the body , must have all the essential nutrients etc, you are right, this can be related to your thyroid undertreatment

this test shows your tsh is too high, you are not converting your free t4 to free t3 that your body uses ( can be due to deficiencies your thyroid needs) Being in normal range is not optimal and i think you need a new doctor, especially if he did not tell you everything above...many drs get very little education on thyroid treatment in med school so they dont know.

Appreciate your knowledge. I’m taking everything I learn to her on Friday. I’m in the US. Our system is a little different, but good health is good health. Thank you so much.

i am in usa too. I found that i had to find bioidentical hormone drs because i also was undertreated as well and i felt terrible all the time..drained, aches, off, low energy etc and they ran a full panel on b12, dhea, d3, iron, hormones etc ....and a full thyroid panel and they increased my meds. I dont know what area you are in but they are good and bad bio identical hormone drs too...so google around and read reviews .
